How old is your Freelander?

Hi all, just wondered who owns the oldest Freelander on this forum? Not for bragging rights, just to see how long they last. Mine is a 56reg Jan 2007.

Update to add history on my Freelander.

Bought with 71,000 miles on clock. Told that nearside wheal bearings replaced and "allegedly" diff pinion bearing replaced (Not convinced this ever happened) One year extended warranty.
79,700 Ancillary belt, pulley and damper replaced (Warranty)
81.900 Alternator and ancillary replaced (Warranty)
82,500 Terrain Response control module replaced (Warranty)
85,500 Diff bearing replaced again. (Warranty, Still not convinced it was replaced when I bought it)
85,800 Hand brake cables replaced. (Badly corroded and split)
97,500 Clutch, DMF, Bearing and crankshaft seal replaced. (Sadly no longer under warranty used local and trusted Indy)
97,500 Fitted second earth lead to starter motor. Cold starting much better.
97,700 Fitted partial blanking plate to EGR pipe. Better at low revs. 4% increase in fuel economy.
98,200 Currently. No issues at the moment. Will be trying a full EGR blanking plate soon.

Some of the press launch cars were 56 regs so they must have been on the road well before Sept 2006? So someone could have one of those i suppose?
My brother in law has just sold his 6th March 2007 one, with under 50k on the clock, that still looked like new when it was cleaned up.

Hi, i might be wrong but if they were pre Sept 2006 they would be 06 plates.

Date of first registration says 24.01.2007, 94k miles on the clock. Nothing too major other than the transfer box, but I think that it didn't need doing as the noise turned out to be a wheel bearing, but no way of proving that now. Still looks like new when clean.

Hi RichP, yes that's one thing I can say for the Freelander. No signs of fading paint or plastic.

I am not the best at regular cleaning. Comes up looking pretty good anyway.

I will probably look at changing the timing belt at 100,000. I dont want to leave it any longer. 9 years old now and just not wort leaving as i want to keep the car.

I cant say Ive ever seen a rusted up FL2, most seemed to be in reasonably good nick?
I guess thats the difference now the body tends to outlast the mechanicals, where 15 years ago the body fell off the mechanicals, many cars now are scrapped purely because of electronics failure such as the ECU.
A friend ended up scrapping his Nissan which was bodily in excellent condition but the ECU unit had failed and he couldnt find another secondhand one to the same spec and a new one was something like £600 at the time, more than the car was worth, so it was just broken up for parts.
Once the electrical side starts playing up and breaking down it becomes a nightmare to fix and costly as the garages just go through a process of elimination until the source of the fault is found, which can cost no end and they dont refund parts they replaced that didnt need replacing either.
I dont think the FL2 has reached the point yet where mega failures have started to occur?

Re: How old is your Freelander?

We own a 58 FL2 TD4 S. Now with 92k on the clock.
Bought it around 3.5 years ago with 62k on the clock & full landrover service history.
First few months of ownership, Changed the front drivers side wheel bearing/hub. (not covered under select used warranty). Re-sealed upper rear brake light cluster (not covered under warranty). Two diesel filters (cloggged up), again not covered under warranty. Upgraded wheels from 16's to 18's.
74k, 7 months after ownership. No warranty now. Changed battery. 4 new tyres. Front discs & pads. Spare remote works intermittently, changed case & battery. Made no difference.
80k, 1.5 years after ownership. I changed the anti shudder/fuel cut off valve. Myself. Set of wiper blades.
85k, 2.5 years after ownership. Another fuel filter.
90k, around 3.5 years on. Rear pinion diff bearing repair from dealers (managed to get a 30% contribution to the repair from landrover). Rear brake caliper, due to seizure. Set of rear pads & discs.
91k, Month ago or so, 4 tyres. Now has a small engine oil leak. Noticed some oil collecting in bottom of sump shield. No visible oil on ground yet. Going to check rear engine breather hose, when I get chance.
Now not sure whether to keep her for another year or to part ex? May keep her, as she's growing on me. Even though I'm not the main driver. Wouldn't buy a newer FL2. Landy has now gone.

Just out of interest, how much did the clutch kit & dmf replacement cost? Cheers. Landy has now gone.

Hi Boroboy,

Replacement cost me £818.00. This included a crankshaft seal as well

I have seen cheaper quotes on this forum but I trust my local Indy to do a proper job.

I did consider leaving it as it did not seem that bad but went ahead as i want to keep it for a few years yet.

Cheers, JGH99 Freelander 2 GS Stornoway Grey
