i got the steering wheel locked message the other day, but I had rushed the key insertion and pressing start so think it got a bit confused. had to remove the key and start again but in not worried about it.

I do need to change my main battery though as starting is a little sluggish on these chilly morning (no what id call cold mornings)

Off to garage in a week or so. but i'll see if the warranty company will pay for the repairs first though. Supposed to have gold" cover so electrical problems should be covered as well. I hope so, cos i ain't paying for a land rover known fault........ but thanks to everyone chipping in with their comments. Damn modern cars, I can remeber a time when nearly all repairs could be done yourself.......without computers and can bus wiring.
I'll post the results of the garage visit here when i get them

There is a software update for the instrument cluster, this can lead to an incorrect indication on the fuel gauge. Have you also been experiencing error messages such as steering column lock?


No I've not had the steering lock issue. Just the fuel gauge issue.

Speaking of the gauge issue, it happened again this morning. It was showing 1/4 remaining and then just dropped to empty. Not sure where to go to from here. It has got to be a known issue. One thing I've noticed is just before this happens the car struggles a little when starting. Takes a few seconds to catch and start.

1, The fuel guage reading issue is a known problem.

2. Initially senders were changed and this cured most occurrences. However, the senders were usually fine when bench tested. Eventually LR realised that the problem had been solved not by fitting new senders but by the removal and re-connection at the in-tank connectors - they degrade through 'fretting corrosion'.

3. There is a TSB on this which is now at about version 5 - Costs about £8.00 to buy on topix.

4. The LR fix is now to remove the connectors and crimp the wires together.

5. Happened to me once but never again. LR advice is not to worry about it if it happens just the once.

6. When I looked into it, LR UK would contribute some 'goodwill' to fix this if the car met certain criteria and was under 6 years old.

Thanks Pedro. This must be the defenitive answer i have been looking for. Downloaded the relevent stuff from Topix and off to my local indy sometime this week to get (hopefully) the problem finaly sorted.

Had the tank wiring done today. Also needed 1 new sensor fitted. All seems to be working correctly at the moment as the fuel gauge shows more fuel now than before it was fixed. Gonna let the fuel get really low and keep my eye on the gauge .
Total price from indy was £325. The warranty company are gonna pay £225 towards the cost so for me, £100 to get it working is a real bargain.
Just hope now that this really is "fixed"

Well, after running out of fuel without warning and waiting for roadside assistance, the car ended up being towed to the dealer. So, two weeks later, I finally got it back. Censored Not sure why it took two weeks (excuses included - staff member resigned, warranty company delays and other internal problems) i'm happy to say they applied the LTB00566 fix and so far so good.

Just need to drive it some more to use the fuel and see if the gauge reports the correct amount. It should since I've got two new senders, a new pump, new gauge and 4 little wire connectors! I'd say all that was need was the wire connectors in the first place!

Thank god for the extended warranty is all I can say.

Now I'm off for a drive. Cool

Well unfortunately my problem still exists. Censored Not sure what they can do this time. Big Cry

Two new senders, a new pump, new gauge and 4 little wire connectors - what else can they change? Would a software update solve the problem? Question Question Question

Looks like a software update is the only thing left to try!!!
Touch wood...... mine still seems to be alright after changing one of the sensors, pump and wiring connectors being done away with
