Fuel heater - heavy white smoke?

Guys, the last couple of mornings when I start my 08 HSE with 60k, i get excessive white smoke from the fuel burning heater, rising from the RHS bulk head, so suggests unburned fuel to me?, could it be too much being injected into the unit? Is there any danger of continued use, its the Wifes drive. Many thanks for any help. Cheers Discovery Sport, LR2 BY 2008 60k, XKR XJ12, Daytona 595, XL500, big Dog & bigger baseballbat

Petrol or Diesel? It makes a difference to the diagnosis.

Hows the battery? At the start of the burn the FBH needs something like 20a to get going. It shouldn't run if the battery voltage is low, but you never know. It could be too much fuel being injected, not enough fuel getting in at the start (so the burner doesn't get up to temperature properly) or not enough air getting in either because the inlet is blocked or the internal fan is broken.

I thought that was normal with diesel fuel burning heaters? I've certainly seen it mentioned on other forums where people think they have a fire starting! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

They shouldn't smoke, mine doesn't, nor did the last one, we run them on the work vehicles, as long as they get serviced they don't smoke.

To much unburnt fuel, 2008, a decoke along with a clean up of the Glowplug wouldn't do it any harm. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

My D3 had a FBH fitted, and it would smoke like that a lot. Pop over to the Disco3.co.uk (sister site to this) and look it up, loads on there about this topic. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

That's where I saw it - I was looking to buy a D3 at one time and it was mentioned a lot. My Brother-in-Law had a Freelander 1 that had a FBH and that chucked out a fair bit of smoke too. A quick Google led me to this post on a 2 year old FFRR. Note what the LRA technician told the poster. http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic281.html?view=next Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
