To Tune or Not To Tune that is the question! And who to use?

So I want to give the 2.2 TD4 some more Grunt

Should I do it?

If so Tuning Box or Remap? Live Tuning or ECU Flash

Or should I just leave it alone?

What are the Positives and Negatives?

If you have tuned your car, who have you used, and what have been the results?

Tuning Box from £50-£400!

Remaps / ECU Flash for £200-£X

Thanks for your input

Thumbs Up

I had an early Nissan X-trail remapped only because it was 114 bhp 2002 but the 2003 model was a 136bhp so it made sense for a remap £400 at the time rather than change the car. made a big difference especially to towing which was the main issue.
Had 2 FL2 TD4 160 bhp and current one SD4 190bhp and I've never felt that the FL2 needs a remap. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

We have a 2010 Td4.e mapped by Alive. Makes a huge difference to the driving of the car, as well as improved fuel economy Thumbs Up

I would always steer clear of tuning boxes. All they do is fool the ECU into spraying in more fuel (which will cause issues long term)

So who is around Oxfordshire who has a remap? I would love to see the difference on a pull away side by side with mine. Whistle

Mikey, do you mind me asking how much this was to get done and roughly how much better the economy is? Been thinking about getting one of these, interested to hear from someone who has experience of it!

I believe the price may vary between having it done at Alive HQ, and their authorised dealers
Expect to pay somewhere around £400 Thumbs Up

As for economy, at this rate, it won't take long to pay for itself Whistle

Fuel economy looks good then. Is that a mix of everything mainly motorway/mainly town driving?

Over the years Ive had a variety of tune ups for a variety of diesel cars- from cheap resistor box to Bluefin DIY remap via the OBD, to full remap where the ECU is removed and heated up to break the security seal.

A remap is by far the best, providing the map is validated and sensible. Custom "bespoke" remaps are in theory the ones to go for but most people have generic maps which appear to be more than satisfactory.

Ive not had my FL2 remapped but Emaps did my 330D, (248 to 296bhp and is so much smoother than the original map) - I can recommend Emaps. Jules
