Ethics of having TV on the move enabled

Quote:
It's now possible to have DVD / TV or USB files displayed whilst in motion.

No extra hardware is/was required just a CCF edit and modification once we found the correct one which was not an easy task!
In fact this and a number of exciting developments that I will share with you shortly, have only been possible by a team effort by myself, Cambo and a couple of other enthusiasts.
This is something a dealer will not be able to do. Even if they had access, which they don't, they'd have no skill or idea how to achieve this or any of the other things we will share with you soon.
A big special thank you to Cambo whom without his knowledge, expertise and a shared enthusiastic nerdy enjoyment of this type of stuff, none of this would be possible! Bow down
As I said earlier, there's more, we are just ironing out a few creases and what this means for our fellow Freel2.com forum members (you) is that you have members who can guide you or even assist in you also having these features which is more important than having DVD in motion in itself Thumbs Up
So please, before you complain about having a screen active while driving, this is not the point rather us having the knowledge to achieve this functionality.
Will keep you posted on the other exciting stuff.

Oh come on, who are you kidding? This IS about having TV/DVD on the move which is bloody dangerous and illegal, in this country at least. I personally think this should be discouraged and not be allowed to be shared on this site - not hailed as some kind of technical breakthrough to be celebrated. What next, illegal satnav updates? DPF removal?

its no worse than the already configured rear view camera on the move configured on DS and EWOK off the production line

I had a loaner DS with the rear camera on the move and drove with it on for a bit. I found it annoying but only because the image was weird (cars appeared further behind / positioning of the camera

Hardly the same though as that's basically the same view you get by looking in your rear view mirror and an occasional glance to check what's going on behind you particularly when you are manoeuvring is a good thing. Now, when you are trying to follow a TV programme or watch a DVD that's a completely different matter as you could easily become distracted. That's why it's illegal and that's why a quick glance to what is going on behind your vehicle either by looking in a mirror or viewing it electronically isn't. You don't have to continually look at the rear camera view any more than you have to continually look in your rear view mirror. You do have to continually watch a TV programme though. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I have split the topics, so you can discuss the ethics of having this enabled and it doesn't detract from what is possible if you so wished to enable it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

tv on the move is dangerous - your eyes should be only looking on one direction, and it isnt at the fecking TV

Dual view screens though, are useful for the passengers IE DS with a Meridian system

It's not exactly difficult and no need to go into CCF. I believe the FFRR has it on a split screen but the driver can't see it. In this country I suspect TV on the move is a waste of time as you would need to retune fairly often. However this mod would probably allow DVDs to be played on the move and is illegal as well as dangerous. I believe the capability or access to the capability should not be accessed on this forum. ( not really happy it has been announced it is possible, though most with more than basic electronic knowledge know it to be possible) my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Illegal as it might be, there is nothing to say that this needs to used on the road, as others have said this could well be used on the farm or other scenarios

Not the best idea ever. Research shows that even using a hands free mobile phone causes enough distraction to increase accident risk so how can having a screen showing tv/dvd in the centre console be any better! It will either distract or bore you to sleep, both of which are life threatening for someone when driving.
As for those who say that it will only be used at a standstill or off road, if it's possible you'll always find some berk who's going to use it illegally. Let's just hope that no one we know gets hit by them.
Personally I'd have all these kinds of distractions disabled for the driver of a moving vehicle, and if anyone phones me while I'm driving, tough, it won't get answered until I get where I'm going.

The function to use it whilst at stand still with or without the engine running should not a problem, most units allow DVD or TV with the handbrake on, how this operates with an electric handbrake I don't know, possibly why they went into CCF. But even the idea of driving about a farm or any other private area doesn't make it safe or sensible. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The bits'n bobs in front of the driver should be about car control. Anything that detracts from that primary role is potentially dangerous if it means the driver is not on the plot controlling the vehicle. Watching the TV while pootling about on the farm may be entertaining until you drive into the slurry pit!

can't wait for all the haters to jump on the next person who wants to tint their front windows a little too much..... oh hang on nobody seems to bother about that type of infraction but as soon as tv in motion is mentioned they all jump out of their bunkers

nobody did this when it was worked out how to turn off the seatbelt warning chimes, another safety feature, when not just take it for what it is, a breakthrough in what can be done, with a few hundred pounds of ccf editing gear Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

There is nothing new about having a moving picture showing on the nav screen.

For years people could buy interface boxes which override the display and allowed you to play whatever video you want. aka Navtool, Gvif, etc.

And more recently you could buy "Video in Motion" modules which plug into the back of the head unit and allow the video image to be displayed while the vehicle is moving.

There are people on this forum who already have such devices fitted to their cars. They haven't posted threads on it because of the expected moral outrage (no disappointment in this thread, the Health and Safety crew is hard at work)

Thousands and thousands of vehicles have been fitted with these devices, you can buy them on eBay, there are even specialist shops who offer these along with installation. I hope you are equally outraged at them.

What we've demonstrated is that it can also be done without the need for additional hardware, or external devices. That's all. We've been trying to get other more useful features to work (like the 4x4i screen) and this just came up along the way. So we tried it, and it works. It's part of the learning curve.

If someone wants to know more about the technical aspects of this, I'm happy to answer questions as best I can in the other thread. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Turning off the seatbelt chime is enabled by LR as there may well be a legitimate reason for that. In any case, even if there isn't a legitimate reason, only the non-user of the seatbelt is going to get injured.

I take its ok to offer copy nav DVD's now then? Just to celebrate the breakthrough of what can be done of course. Will only be used on private land to plot a route. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
