Cancer

This has affected a great many of us at some point and I lost both my grandparents to it (on my mum's side). My dad (67) was diagnosed with esophageal cancer just before Christmas. This caused great shock and stress to the family obviously and I'm going to be very open with you guys here, when my supervisor at work the next day offered me support and kind words (she is brilliant) I broke down. The shock had finally worn off and the emotions just kicked in.

He has been to the consultant today following a CT scan and biopsy and we are very fortunate to have caught it early. It has not spread so there will be a short but intensive run of chemotherapy treatment before they operate to remove it. The consultant is confident of a 100% cure. We are so relieved but at the same time, we are not out of the woods yet.

In the spring or early summer, I plan to sort out a fundraiser for Macmillan. Possibly walking Kinder Scout and I will create a just giving page which I will post in due course. That is some way off and my dads treatment is priority now.

I'll keep you posted Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Been through it with my dad, albeit bowel cancer, though it was close to entering the stomach the doctors caught it in time.

A driver at work had the same type as your dad, he's in his 60s, they managed to remove it and rebuild his gullet. It took a good year but he made a full recovery, talking and eating as he did before. It's a long road but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Your dad and the wider family have a tough journey ahead, but you will get there. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

my brother had thyroid cancer about 20 years or so ago, my dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer just over a year ago, which was also found in his liver, chemo and radio therapy and they seem to have stabilised the lung, the liver is now been fought with all the advancement in cancer research available Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Fingers crossed for the further treatment Nick Thumbs Up Cancer affected us last January too but that was with our Spaniel Sam who we had to have put to sleep. It is such an awful thing and I applaud any research that brings about new treatment to help people who suffer with it.

I'll never forget a documentary a few years ago where they studied Crocodile blood in relation to Cancer. They noticed that Crocs fought each other in dirty water full of horrendous germs and yet their wounds healed no problem.

Back at the lab, they placed highly advanced cancer cells into the crocodile blood and the cancer promptly dropped dead. This is something they are still looking into and developing I believe. How is another matter but any advancement is a bonus Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

We've lost a few friends and family to cancer including my Father in Law but we have more that have beaten it. We now have a standing order to cancer relief taken from our account each month. It's good to know the consultant is confident of a 100% cure and although it will be tough, it won't all be for nothing and there's plenty out there that would like those odds. Just stay strong for him. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

All the best to him wish him a speedy recovery Thumbs Up cancer runs very high in my side of the family also. I hate that saying YOLO "You Only Live Once" You Live Everyday You Only Die Once Wink

We take a lot of things for granted in live and sometimes things like this gives us a wake up call! We windge, moan, complain about petty things in life, we've all done it/do it.

I lost my wife to bowel cancer in 2010.In April 2014,I was diagnosed with kidney cancer.Coincidentally,I had my left kidney removed with the tumour on my wife's birthday.I haven't had any further treatment, but have to go for a CT scan every 6 months. So far,I've been clear. My specialist told me that it was caught early,so,so far so good.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
