I had mine down to the 40 mile range today, drove 15miles and had a range of 20 miles left, dove 15 miles back and the range still had 13miles.

I can understand it getting more & more inaccurate based on a very short range like you said, but 150miles & 10mins later the light/beep happens???

Podcast, is the drive/street you park on on a slope? Also if the fuel level is very very low then 'sloshing' in the tank may affect the level reading. Rover group cars used to have notorious fuel gauges for sticking at 3/4 tank or above and then suddenly dropping like a stone and you could fool yourself into thinking you had a lot more fuel in the tank than you really had. My Defender also has a fuel gauge that is affected by cross slopes, hills and corners once it gets below 1/4 tank. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Nope, parked in a near level multi-storey at work, something must have stuck as it's now returned to normality, still 1/3 tank left...alledgedy?? |

We've had the software updated for the gauge twice now. Ours suddenly decides it has an empty tank - so the light goes on, range drops to 0 and petrol stations pop up on the satnav but 5 mins later and all is well again.

Well it happened again today on the way home and this time the range dropped to zero about 10 miles from home, about 5 miles from home the revs were limited to 2,500 and acceleration was very slow, is this some sort of emergency mode based on the car thinking their is limited fuel??? I know that there's about 100miles left based on when I left work & home is only 18miles away so there should be plenty of fuel left, but my FL2 doesn't think so! And if i do fill it up I reckon I'd only get 55 litres in max. HELP. |

I think a call to the dealer is needed to see if this is a software issue. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back! |

Will do, only had the 1st service 2 weeks ago. I search on here for 'limp mode' which does kick-in with low fuel hence the lack of power, but some threads say that the fuel tank sensors are the issue, due to duel sensors where the rear drive splits the tank in two at lowish fuel levels!

Podcast, you only got 58litres into the tank ... wait till you fill up with 68/69 litres .... which I have done a number of times!! Seriously though there are number of folks who have reported fuel gauge problems, I have a very early car and thankfully that is one problem I have not experienced; my fuel gauge has always been spot on and (luckily) has not casued me a moments bother ... Now there are other things that have, radio tuning, failt to start, transmission warnings, rattles ... so it seems none of us are destined for a completely trouble free ride !!!! Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

I only filled up to check the 'real' reading, which was OK, I would normally run it to the light.... but I got scared! |

I have experienced the zero fuel thing although I had an almost full tank, so it seems like a trip to the dealers might be in order.

You're doing well. Our average is back down to 22. Nothing wrong with the car though. I had it late 30s after a reset and run down the motorway but stop/start short journeys and it's awful. Only to be expected though - it's not a small car. The merc is the same - I've had 48 out of it and regularly get 40+ but sit round town and in traffic and I'm doing well to crack 25. Our gauge is playing up again. Get down to 1/4 and it keeps flitting dwn to zero. The Mrs has given the dealer some grief and it goes in on Tues for that and the preheater recall, so we'll see what happens. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good! |

There is a tech. bulletin stating it could be the sender unit connector coming loose.
