For piece of mind I went for "factory" LR side steps as they are such a substantial item. Fit like a glove. You should be able to pick up OE ones for a reasonable price!

Obviously with the OE ones you would be expecting quality - at a price though. Looking at that picure, the OE ones look absolutely no different from my eBay pattern ones which fit well, are rock solid and have been on for over two years now. Cost me about 」100 I think. Im not bothered by the lack of serial number underneath them. |

There you go! You either spend the money for guaranteed quality or you can save some money and take a risk.

They look about the same as all the others. You do know they're not genuine ones though - just genuine 'style '. Whatever you get, if you are fitting them yourself, they say you should use a 'rivnut' tool to fit the supplied rivnuts. I just used a long 6mm bolt and a couple of 6mm nuts to fit the rivnuts into the sills. |

Got mine from 4x4styling on fleabay - fitted without problems - pleased with the quality of the materials and can live without a serial number!

The side tubes do look smart, and I have considered them. However I think I'm going for the steps. Stuartc, the OE items seem to be about 」600 Thanks Westville for the info about 4x4styling, they are a great price and judging by your feedback and the number sold give a lot of confidence that they won't spoil my car! I'll have a set of those |

Whatever your comfortable with, after all it your vehicle! In my case the overall investment in the "Genuine" item is a fraction of the cost of the new vehicle and I was happy to outlay for piece of mind. As I decided to purchase new, a last build Freelander 2, I plan on long term ownership and wanted all OE equipment where possible. I'm of the opinion of StuartC. All the accessories and extras on mine are OE parts, not pattern in any way. This includes the steps/mudflaps/rear treadplate/latch finisher/undershield/side mouldings/sill treadplates/mats/cargo barrier/luggage retention net and that's about it. All OE, and the very thought of putting Chinese knock-off crap on my vehicle is akin to buying a fake Rolex. Foraging near Gaydon....
