After the serious rain recently, opened the passenger door today to find the foot well 2 " deep in fresh water (over the mats). it is also in the rear passenger side, though not as bad. assumed it had to be rain, (WRONG).

It is coming from the aircon, and it is pouring out at an astonishing rate. But it is coming from the passenger side between 2 bits of plastic. What's going on here? The drain is fine....

I'm wondering if it is coming from the aircon if the drain is ok - and that tends to drip - sounds like you've got lots more!
Perhaps it is rainwater - only suggestion is to check the pollen filter housing etc and make sure it's intact? Or a leak around windscreen? 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I am sure it is just this, the water is pouring out. It re filled the footwell in about 2 mins, almost like a tap. I have never seen anything like it... So it is def that, but why so much water is coming out, and how to stop it, I do not know....

I pulled the drain hose off the gromit where it goes out through the floor of the car on the drivers side and the re attached it. Since then it does not appear to be leaking and water is dripping from under the car. But as I do not appear to have done anything I am reluctant to put everything back.

Has anyone else had this?

It appears I have fixed this by pulling the drain hose off and putting it straight back on?? Seems odd...

Check the condition/fitment of the leaf screen across the bottom of the windscreen, if it is not fitted correctly water can poor strait into the heater duct.

It is known for the hose to block, pinching it can be enough to clear it, in the removal you could have disturbed the crud releasing the water  p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I took the time to read through some of the post's regarding "AIR CON DRAIN PIPE " as I also am currently suffering from wet foot wells I/we (the garage) took a air line and blown out the drain pipes hopefully it should be all sorted now

Well it seems I was right to be cautious at the seemingly simple fix as I opened the door to find 5" (that's not a typo) of water in the foot well. I think it was actually draining over the sill.

I am going to check the scuttle cover as Mullen suggested but I have also found that whatever is in the n/s grill vent on the wing is all loose, is this by change the air intake for the heater matrix?

Have you had the air con on? You must like it cold if you have! Have you had the rain recently? On the passenger side under the bonnet behind the battery casing there is a tun dish type thing that is supposed to catch the water from the scuttle and funnel it through that compartment, check whether that is in place. Seems a stupid idea to me as it is agjacent to where the earth strap is connected. I have not seen any posts on this but would be worth checking.

I have the heat on but never turn the air con off no as I like to see where I am going ! But actually I do like it cold!

have you had a windscreen replaced? could be seeping through a crack in the sealant? I really don't think the aircon would generate 5" of water without you noticing it whilst driving due to the sloshing sound

I don't recall it been mentioned on a Freelander 2, but if you have a sunroof, check the sunroof drains as some disco3 owners have wet footwells due to them leaking Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

No sunroof and I am confident I fixed the air con leak as it is dry in that area.

I did have a windscreen replaced about 6 months ago. I think I am going to have to do the hose and patience test...

Just to update this, I did finally find the leak with a good old hose and a lot of patience. It would appear that when the door card was last removed one of the plastic lugs that holds it on near the speaker had broken. What I did not know was they have 2 purposes, they hold the card on and also have a rubber seal on them that seals up the hole, forcing water inside the door out of the drain holes at the bottom. If they are not there, the water pours out of those holes, down the inside of the card, then onto the sill but inside the car. It then goes under the plastic trim which holds the carpet down and under the carpet, meaning you can't see the leak from the car, you just get wet.

All completely fixed now in about 8 seconds with a 1" piece of tape. 1 month later and not drop of water. Took best part of a week to dry the carpet though which also took about an hour to take out the car!

I haven't seen that problem mentioned before - thanks for updating us on it.
