If you have a MY13 model and HB3 lamps which are single filament and dipped beam works then the shutter mechanism doesn't work. You may well have disturbed it changing out lamps.

indeed I do have a MY13
is it just a case of popping out the bulb and putting it back ? it was a halfords employee who swapped it.. then again the old bulb exploded and there was glass everywhere so perhaps there is a piece of bulb jamming it ?
any tips ?

OK sorted it
it seems that the halfords HB3's ( the extreme brilliance ones) are slightly longer than the OEM Philips bulbs
meaning that the reflector was hitting the bulb hence jammed
this also accounts for the 3 bulbs my car has chewed through in the last 4 weeks...
i have ordered some OEM Philips bulbs to replace the halfords EB ones - currently the bulbs are set as far back in the holder as they will go and so far high beams work fine so who knows maybe they will last ?
