Well that was easier/harder than expected, the procedure for the change is all very straight forward, and being a fairly young vehicle no corroded nasties.

However, the pads themselves seemed to be fiddly as **** to actually fit, not assisted by the weight of the callipers themselves Smile

The only real minor fly in the ointment was the retaining screw on the last disk, which did not want to play.

All the usual combinations of breaker bar/impact driver/blow torch/hammer failed, so spent 15mins drilling the little blighter out.

Much to my delight, once I'd drilled out most of the countersunk head, the screw gave in and turned a little. After that it was happy to come out with just gentle turning from a flat blade.

Now to work out what I can make from a nice set of heavily lipped disks... Smile

In the old days you used to send them off to be machined flat again. Smile 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I find (from many years experience with HGV and Land rovers) that either an impact driver gives the best results on counter sunk screws on disks/ drums.

assuming you dont have an impact driver, the next best thing is a (ideally) brass drift, give it a good love tap on the screw and it will come right out..

I have never had to drillout one of these.. infact i can count on 1 hand how many screws/ bolts ive ever had to drill out, its all about patients and technique.

Having worked on new and very old HGV's, Heavy Plant, numerus Military kit and my own full 1986 defender rebuild, i think people dive staight in with the drill without really trying.. MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

Quite possibly Very Happy

It's not my first choice by any means, but even after 3 cycles of heat/cool down with the blow torch, the impact driver was just chewing the head of the screw with the Torx bit, which was a bit of a surprise.

Amongst other things I've had a '62 109 SIIa, a '65 Morris Minor, and six (proper) Mini's, which have each received a fair amount of renovation, so 'reluctant' fasteners are not a new thing, and yes it really is very rare that something doesn't succumb to the persuasion of the impact driver, tickled with ever increasing love from the club hammer Wink

To be fair, I think I probably cursed it with some 'optimistic voodoo' because after I'd done the third wheel, I was feeling quite pleased that it was all so straight forward...
