United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Barolo Black
Body Control Module

Hi, I am having a number of problems when starting my car. The problem seem to point to an intermitant failure of the Body Control Module. The fob key does not fully engage and I get a number of warning including HDC, Engine and Transmission faults as well as software incompatibility. If I keep trying the keyfob the car will eventually start and then drive perfectly for (perhaps) a hundred or two miles. Since Land Rover want best part of a grand for a new box plus fitting and possible reprogramming I wonder if anybody has had similar problems and changed their bcm. I believe the box is coded against the chassis number and stores the car milage so a second hand unit may not be possability.
Any help please

Before you go that far, if you search on the forum there has been some reports of similar issues which were resolved by checking all plugs into the BCM as they can become dislodged as it in the passenger side footwell behind the fuse box. Try this first aswell as a search on here. If that doesn't give a positive result then start looking at BCM. MY15

Thanks for the idea but I have removed and cleaned all the plugs to the bcm. However I have not done the same to the fuses so I will try this next as Land Rover say these units very, very rarely fail. It is difficult to believe the electronics are at fault when you can drive for hours without problems !!

I see you have a MY2007. Try a software update first, for all car's ECUs.
In other words, update the software to the latest versions as a number of issues were resolved over time.

Hi,

I had similar problems with my 07 freelander, poor starting and battery drains, and a long thread was posted on here some time ago seeking the solution. Independent LR specialist suggested BCM was at fault and a replacement would be the tune of circa £1000 so I feel your pain.

The car can be set up to open in 2 modes when you press the open button on the key fob. Global opening, which opens all the doors at once, or the factory default which opens the drivers door with one press and a further to open the remainder.

For some reason (some wiggly amp electrical feature in the ECU) with my car in Global the battery would drain overnight.

Could be worth a check.

To reset the car, disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect.

Hope this helps!
