Australia 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green
Aussie Tow Hitch JLRA RAA457

Finally got around to fitting Australian Design Rules LRA tow hitch.
Australian Class 3, 3500kgs max rating, 250kgs max ball download (immerterial really as you have a fixed max rear axle load).
LR rated Freelander 2 2000kgs, 150 max ball download.

Hitch tongue is removable so can either be stored and other hitch types such as a Hyland Hitch
can be used, bike carrier Infact any end of options. An anti-rattle nut prevents any noise from tongue while in use. When not in use a nice blanking plug is supplied with kit by LR.

Nice. I just wrapped the hole in black tape to hide it away on mine. I painted the white electrical socket cap too.

So it's a 50x50 hitch? The layout of it appears different to mine... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

No, It should be 40mm, Havn't measured it.
Class 4 and 5 are 50mm tongue.
It's actually over rated for the Freelander but better to be safe then sorry☺️
I removed the tack welded plate and used the European attachment plates supplied with the kit, that's why the
Sockets are on either side of the tongue receptor. I think
It looks neater than both on one side.
Possibly may paint white protection cap later when it have some spare time and not trolling internet and wiring diagrams educating myself☺️ MY15

A Land Rover without a towbar looks wrong Laughing . Will you not leave the tow hitch attached as it offers protection to the bumper for light nudges in car parks, sitting in traffic etc?

To save painting the caps you can get dust /waterproof socket covers. I also requested to have my electrics fitted on either side Thumbs Up

According the towing supplement in MY13 you can increase to 250 kgs but you have to reduce the GVW by 100 kgs & maximum speed of a 100 km/h

Yes, that's correct. The class 3 Australian tow hitch has far greater capacity than the Freelander 2 is rated to tow. It's limited to GVM and rear axle load. So obviously if you have an unloaded vehicle then a greater mass can be towed up until the GVM and rear axle load limits. MY15

Horses for courses. I prefer the look of it removed. But the #1 reason I took ours off was to save my shins.

Dear Sir, would you be so kind as to share a source for these socket covers. They do not seem to be available in this country. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I have hit me shin at full stride on a tow bar in New Zealand many years ago. The tow bars over there stick out further than ours. Maybe it's to make up for shortfalls in other departments.

Anyway, I doubled over in pain for more than an hour, and I can cope with pain fairly well. Managed to get some ice from a shop which helped to some degree with the pain and also quickly took 4 Aspalgin, double what one should take but that was the strongest pain killer I could get my hands on. Still have an indentation in the shin. By comparison hitting your thumb with a hammer is enjoyable, and I have done that a couple of times, once semi passing out losing sight and seeing stars for 10 minutes, loss of hearing and balance but fully conscious!

I will put it bluntly. All cars with non removable tow bars should be destroyed! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
