Power steering belt slipping

My son is complaining that when he goes through water he loses power steering for a few minuites and it sounds like his auxiliary drive belt is slipping. How easy is it to tighten it up? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Most belts nowdays are tensioned by an automatic spring-loaded tensioner. Either the spring has weakened or its time for a fresh belt. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I had that on an ancient Astra each time it went through a decent size puddle, the belt wears and stretches to the point tightening makes no difference and it needs renewing, the belt, and probably the car too by now.
