Key fob battery

Hello.

Is there a way to recharge a key fob on a 2013 Freelander 2 HSE Lux? Or indeed do what we all do with those TV remotes and rotate the batteries to get a few more days out of them? When I switch on the engine a warning on the dashboard says the battery is low. Slightly concerned about this as am about to head to Scotland and not that keen on stopping somewhere along the M74!

Hi
my 07 freelander has a built in battery that charges when its in the slot, but I have a feeling your newer vehicle have replacable batteries, do you know which one yours is? should tell you in your manual. If there replacable ones its not worth messing around with just get some new ones, even Tesco sells them. Could use your spare while u sorti t.

Thanks.

No slot in mine to recharge it sadly. While one can get into the car using the key inside the fob, I presume there is no way to start the engine when the fob battery is dead?

It's a standard 2032 button battery, easily obtainable and very easy to change.
Best to use a well known brand rather than cheap one.

I've found both my fobs not working. Mine barely get used as I walk everywhere and thought it was odd they were dead. I opened them up and checked the batteries with a voltage meter and both batteries were ok.

I cleaned the battery & put it back in while keeping fingers off the contact surfaces & both fobs worked fine. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Maybe the batteries they have in stock are a hundred years old as everyone will get them from the supermarket where they have a fast turnover.

For Australians! I noticed yesterday Coles had 2 x Energizer twin packs on sale for $13.00. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Well two days not a message or bleep then back today with the dreaded message also for the second time it comes up with the message "smart key not found" so opened and shut the doors pushed various buttons and all ok again, batteries all factory fresh and well up to voltage so no problems there, really random so hopefully will keep going over Christmas otherwise will have to break the V8 out (which normally never comes out in bad weather). Sad

Just changed the CR2032 batteries to both key fobs on MY2013 GS Auto. Had previous message battery low to both key fobs but all good now with new batteries fitted. Seems like the battery life is about 2 years and 9 months, for my LR anyway Very Happy

Well just back from dealers who did another system reset and changed both batteries once again, voltage measured on new batteries 3.3 volts, the battery I had changed by landrover a few weeks ago read 3.02 volts the other key ring which I put the original back in which never gets used was at 2.9 volts,so will know in the next week if it has fixed the problem,I will not hold my breath! The loan car was a disco sport se it was ok but not to inspiring,I don't think it will be the replacement when the time comes for a change. Sad
