Not sure what year your car is but believe mine (63 plate) can be adjusted in main vehicle settings menu?

You can adjust the screen brightness/contrast in the settings on the touchscreen. There is also an autodimming function that can be selected that adjusts the brightness automatically depending on the light levels in the cabin. An orange button to the r/h of the touchscreen (In settings) switches that function on and off. |

the little dome on the dash at the centre base of the windscreen is the light sensor... this is what determines if the nav screen dims (when set to auto) and on models with climate (GS spec and above) it helps adust temperature and air flow too |

Right " went into settings and found auto as you said and it was set but the brightness and contrast was turned up as well so I put them down to normal and now screen seems to dark but auto doesn't seem to work as turn lights off but don't get any brighter and if sensered by little some when it's dark outside the screen still remains dark so had to raise contrast and brightness up again to view properly ?

My 07 you can dim the screen with the instrument dimmer next to the light switch. I don't think it dims automatically though.
