Plymouth to Chester return trip mpg

Hi everyone

I went up to Chester yesterday to collect my girlfriend and all of her stuff from university to bring home. 600 miles. The journey up I detoured into Cheltenham Land Rover, stopped twice more and achieved. 40mpg at the pump. Just £2 more than my previous ford Kuga.

The return journey was totally full to the roof with her belongings and halls accommodation stuff, stopped 3 times on the way back and achieved 36mpg. I was doing 65-70mph nearly all the time on cruise control.

I am very impressed. I know I wasn't driving on an eco run so could have got even better if I had driven more economically. I love my SD4. A wonderful drive.

Thumbs Up
Did similar a couple of weeks ago but less luggage .... & considerably faster - 32 mpg for me. Best bit leaving the toll booths on the M6 toll - Launch control rocks ! FL2 Ex D2, D3, RRS, etc. now all gone.

It's so much fun but I was very restrained yesterday I have to admit. We have the saltash-Plymouth toll bridge I use for the exact same reason!!! Love the SD4 auto. Would never go back to a manual now

My SD4 Metro had it's first service (16000 miles) about a month ago and the average mpg (based on three tank fills) has improved from struggling-to-get 33 mpg to now an easy-win 36 mpg.

As a result no longer impatiently waiting for my Disco Sport (currently 9 months after ordering and no indication as to when I'm going to get it) Now:

Gone::
(04/17): 16.5MY Discovery Sport HSE (Waitomo)
(08/16): 16MY Discovery Sport HSE Lux Auto (Corris Grey + Black pack)
(11/15): 15MY Freelander 2 Metropolis SD4 (Loire blue)

Had a DS on loan, rear load aperture has a lower roof line so not as good as the FL2 for bulky loads, also hate the dinky mirrors.

Very very nice car and drive but it is not a leap ahead of the FL2. I won't be in a hurry to get one.

I regularly get 41-42 mpg whilst driving long trips. I have found that the trick isn't to select the highest possible gear - but to try to drive at 1500rpm. Obviously, this isn't possible at high speeds but it works for me.
I have a mate with a Disco and he has used it with similar improvements in MPG rates.

Trip to York and back (from the South Coast) last weekend. On the way up, I averaged 37.6 mpg and on the way back with 3up plus luggage 35.8. Journey back was less leisurely Smile Very pleased with that. This weekend down to Cornwall, so it'll be interesting to see how it does on the A roads

MY14, SD4.

I used to get around 35mpg out my 2008 TD4 Manual on a mix of roads and driving styles

I now get 62mpg out my Insignia with a sometimes exuberant driving style on the same roads.

I miss the FL2 big time Big Cry , but im still smiling at the 62MPG and £30 road tax i get now out of a 200bhp/320lb ft repmobile Very Happy
