front windows sticking

Been out in the freelander today and both front windows will only move a couple of mm up and down (not enough to have a gap between window and frame).
It's not been making any nasty noises like the FL1 did when the cables started to go, as both front windows are doing it is it more likely to be due to sub zero temps overnight (minus 2 or 3).
If it helps diagnosis it had been parked in the sun this morning long enough for all the frost to melt and had been driven about 10 miles before I tried to open a window and I tried them again when we got back home after a total of about 15 miles.
A second press on the button does not move the window at all. Mine, Saab convertible

After sitting for a day in the sun with temp up to 4C it took 5 or 6 tries to get them moving up and down even though there was no sign of any ice round the seals.

Rear windows didn't stop working and I'm wondering if it was something in the winder mechanism that had frozen and not the window frozen to the seal. Mine, Saab convertible

mine is still doing it. ive booked it back into the dealer to have a look next Monday. I don't want to risk trying it all the time in case it turns something simple into something big.

Mine used to stick and refuse to open, I sprayed silicone spray on the window channels and it worked a treat for me also prevents freezing. Thumbs Up

I'll try the silicone spray on it.

Turbo, do you mean they would stick when not frozen too.

When I've had windows frozen up before you could hear slight cracking / scraping noises when you tried to open them as the window tried to break free from the seals a second press would do the same, with the Freelander it was like pressing to put the window down when it was already almost down, heard the motor start, window moved a couple of mm then silence, press a second time and it was as if the switch had been disconnected. Mine, Saab convertible

Been out with the spray and passenger window that was working yesterday now only moves a couple of mm again. It can't be iced up as it's been 5C or above most of the day.

Even pushing the window down while someone presses the switch doesn't make it move any further. Mine, Saab convertible

I have no answer really but just to throw this into things. Remember that these windows have an "anti trap" software/mechanism on them. So too much resistance will activate that and stop the motor. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Anti trap is only for the lifting mode normally, shouldnt affect lowering, in fact if its stopped going upwards because its closed on some kiddies fingers its essential it will lower and free them and not just stop and leave them trapped..

RogB has the same problem so I'll wait to see what happens when he has his dealer look at it.

Not looking forward to removing the regulator though as from what I've found on here you need to lower the window to get at the clips that hold it to the window. Mine, Saab convertible

Well, you maybe partially right in that it's designed to stop and drop a couple of millimetres when going up. However I wouldn't rule out that it might work either way if the winder motor feels resistance. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I think you are right blacktiger.

I haven't tried it but I would expect that once the anti trap has stopped the window going up it will only let you move the window down. It explains why a second press does nothing. Mine, Saab convertible

The window motors have hall sense system - so motor will not operate when excessive resistance is present - regardless of windows position. 2014 SE Loire Blue SD4 Auto (MY15)

Agreed.

This is the anti-trap feature.

Had exactly the same symptoms caused initially by trying to open the window whilst frozen solid. Ice prevented the window from opening, anti-trap kicked in, and then (when defrosted) the window only opened a few millimetres.

Easily fixed in about 15 seconds by resetting the windows. Search for the procedure on here. From memory, it's close the window completely, let go of the window button, then lift it again and hold it closed for about 10-15 seconds, then let go of the button. Window will then open/close normally.

No need for a dealer visit.
