I can second that. I wanted to buy a new drive belt for my Honda scooter. There were two 'pattern' parts on eBay - both at £99 each plus delivery. At those prices I wondered just how much a genuine Honda one was so out of curiosity I phoned my Honda dealer. It was just £71.

For what it's worth I will be doing the cambelt/waterpump/drive belt on my wife's Peugeot soon so I looked on Eurocarparts and saw a variety of items offered. I didn't know which brand to go for so I called the local Peugeot dealer who quoted for genuine Peugeot parts kit at a lower price so don't always assume that other suppliers are cheaper.

I'll third that(ish) Whistle

Disco 3's and RRS have known issues with oil pumps, though JLR won't admit anything
Owners are replacing them as their own cost
Pumps originally cost £45. Over the last 2 years, they have now increased to £250...

I have a Citroen dealer at the bottom of my street. Same 2.7 engine, same pump, same manufacturer. £120 Rolling Eyes

Yes the recommended 150K is way too much. I would be looking to do it at half this. I note a lot of you guys who have done it have changed the water pump too. Was this because you thought prudent or are they a likely failure?
I ask as I have done numerous cambelts on Volvo V70s and never changed the water pump as they are reckoned to be bullet proof with which I must agree and there have been reports of people changing it and then having problems in later life with the new one.

We had a waterpump go on a Renault Clio and it threw the cambelt with the usual result (£1300). In discussion with the garage afterwards they said that they had never seen a belt actually broken and that in their experience it was usually a tensioner or waterpump that fails and causes the belt to come off. After that I have always replaced the pump too especially as it's not that expensive. I am planning to do the cambelt on my wife's Peugeot and their standard kit includes a new waterpump. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
