I have 17" wranglers on mine and they were down to 5mm rear 4mm front after 28000 miles, 5000 of which were towing a caravan(cue CG Censored comment) are your pressures ok and have you had the tracking checked?

I have 17" continentals, and I've done 17k, and still have at least another 5k to go out of the tyres

My car came with Good Year Wranglers. I drive a bit heavy footed, under 30mpg and still on first set of tyres after 32000 miles. Thumbs Up Much better than the XC90 i had before this which went through tyres in about 15000 miles.

I also tow a caravan which doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on the tyre life. CG might dispute this though.

Seeing that you are all asking my opinion, towing has got to have some affect on tyre life, how much so is anyones guess.
My shotgun could soon shorten the life of caravan tyres though, so stay away from my area Laughing At work

41500 miles on Wranglers with 5mm left all around, some caravan towing, maybe 1500 - 1600 miles.

Also maxed out a tank of fuel at 650 miles, could there be some relation ship here ..... Whistle

One thing I have noticed, when looking at my spare tyre, is the contis have a wear rating of 300 and the wranglers are 400, so in theory the wranglers should last 1/3 longer than the Contis.

How unfair is that. The dealers never ask you which tyres you want, so you can't pick the longer lasting ones.

Currently 34,000 miles on original tyres, 30k service report says 30% left so I am looking to get around 40k miles out of them

Are you sure that they have worn by half of the original tread? How can you tell?

I would suggest if you are curious to determine eactly how much wear they have is measure the tread depth of a new 16" tyre of the same brand and model and compare it to yours as proper indication.

Tread guages are dirt cheap and very simple to use, especially on a 4x4 where you have that extra clearance around the wheel.

The tyres are worn out when they get down to the raised dimples between the treads, not before. See below.

My FL2 came with Contis fitted, but whilst cleaning it yesterday noticed that the spare is actually a Wrangler!

Gilfishman,

Was your car new or secondhand?

If secondhand how many miles has the car done, and did the dealer tell you that the tyres had only been replaced 3500 miles ago?

If new wouldn't you have seen that the tyres were worn and dirty...... Question Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!
