United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Orkney Grey
Scratch repair

I have 3-4 little marks on the bonnet perhaps caused by flying little stones which took out the little bit of paint here and there. I believe my paint colour is Orkney Grey (Topix) and this was confirmed by Dan when I bought a touch up kit from Duckworth.
The kit has 2 little bottles: Orkney paint and clear lacque. I used a little cocktail stick to transfer the paint to these little marks but the colour seems much darker than surrounding areas. I used T-cut to soften the egdes but they still need more paint to level.
My questions:
1- Is the paint normally darker until you put the clear lacque on top? The little touch up paint bottle is Orkney.
2- What recomment product to "level" these mark after filling with paint as T-cut doesn't seem to do very well.
Thank for all advice.

I've found this too.
Colour pot needs lots of shaking to get the metallic bits evenly distuributed and too keep it so between coats - they reflect the light and make the paint less dark. Clear lacquer gives the right shine in the end.
Build up lots of thin layers rather than cut back.

There is a company called 'paints4u' I think, who do the actual proper kit including application spears, levelling solution and some wet and dry. Plus comes with all the instructions.

As already mentioned shake metallic paint well, they are a pain in the neck. I'd go for 3 minutes instead of the usual 2 minutes for solid colour paint. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thank you for your advice gentlemen.
Regard excess paint remover, what grade of wet and dry I should use and where to get them.
Amazon sell the Turtle Wax 1830813 FG6772 Scratch Repair Kit which include some wet and dry sand paper. Has anyone use this:

Thank Lightwater I shaked for couple of minutes then used a cocktail pick to drop paint on these mark. The colour is OK this time but I am looking for some very fine wet and dry to smooth out the paint before getting some clear lacque on top.
