What is my Freelander worth?

Hi all, I will be putting my freelander up for sale in the next couple of weeks when I've finished all the little jobs that I never got round to finishing... Really struggling to know where to price it as it is far from standard and it owes me a small fortune.. I was thinking (hoping) around 8k. Is this unrealistic...

History behind it...

Its a Freelander S Commercial
I bought it just over 2 years ago direct from Pentland Land Rover (Edinburgh) with a misfire.. It had 240k on the clock and was there parts van from new. It has a full main dealer service history up to then (irrelevant now I would say) It had had a new diff and gearbox whilst they had it.
I found out the misfire was caused by the swirlflaps breaking and causing a worn cam follower to break..
I set about rebuilding the engine (About 6k spent - should have just bought an engine in hindsight) New pistons, shells, New evoque head with brand new latest camshafts (No breaking at the fuel pump), New evoque fuel pump, Red silicone intercooler/turbo pipes, New intercooler, New Turbo, New injectors etc...
I then had it remapped by Alive Tuning.
I also decided the suspension was a bit tired so replaced all of that with new items.
After the remap the clutch started slipping a bit so fitted a brand new one and dual mass..
I have done the following also:
Facelift front and rear including rear lights
Black Side Tubes
20" Evoque Wheels with General Grabber AT2's (5k ago)
Brand new calipers front and rear painted SVR Blue - Upgrade fronts to V6 spec (Less than 1k ago)
New Mtech drilled/grooved discs and Mtech pads (Less than 1k ago)
Pioneer Double Din AppRadio 4 with reverse camera, Bluetooth, appleplay etc
HSE Steering Wheel - All working
Evoque front seats
Rear seat conversion from 2013 model including new isofix support bar - Rear windows activated (Old commercial set up still available)

And probably some other stuff as well... Owes me a small fortune...

Now on 270k

Thoughts?

Bottom book at best for year just as it is described on your V5 with those miles would be my view. Is it still a commercial there ?

How has your insurance company handled the changes being way off original spec ?

Alternatively park it in Liverpool insured for fire and theft but you would be back at sentence one I suspect re value.

Good luck. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Spend another £300 possibly

Something like this may get you a value to work off and recover some of your outlay.

Hmm, any modification from standard in theory reduces the resale value of a vehicle to Joe Public or the trade and the resale value of a ten year old car is what you can get for it on the day. . To the general public all of the work you have done won't count . So your target audience with all the work is Joe Enthusiast. Put it up for sale on here at £8500 and see what reaction you get, this is the the place where people will understand what you have done ,the place where many love the car and won't judge it by the plate , they might be considering buying and doing a project , and you might save them several thousand quid doing it themselves Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

To most people it's going to be an S-spec with 270K and mismatched seats!

You've spent a lot of money getting it the way you want it, so why not keep it and enjoy it. That's the only way you'll get your money's worth from it, I'm afraid.

Looks like time will tell them!!
With past experience, things like facelifting and wheels add to value on land rovers...
I am selling as I have just bought a 3.6 tdv8 Vogue SE, so it's just not going to get used...

The Seats actually matched the car as it was a commercial when I did the fronts... I only added the rears due to having a baby. If I was to keep I would have them redone to match.

The car is basically two years old bar the shell...

I guess advertise and see!

A LR salesman told me a few years ago that the only thing that matters on a car after about 6 years is bodywork condition, mileage, original spec level, service history and age. After that you can add what you want but you won't get your money back. My 2011 79k GS was sold by a dealer in London recently for about £8.5K if that helps, I was given £7.5k trade in. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Not sure but I think a commercial vehicle, especially a modified one, will be very expensive, if not impossible, for a private owner to insure. However, because of its commercial status, it will be a good tax write off as a company 'car' with no personal tax liabilities for the self-employed or business owner. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

This is Johnathan Craddock's Freelander 2. For those not familiar with the name , he's the son of John Craddock, of John Craddock Land Rovers fame in Cannock.
He has spent, according to what I've been told, around £70,000, yes you read that correctly , £70,000 on this wonderful creation. It's now back to it's original black and 07 reg number.
The spec is truly amazing, including a flappy paddle gearbox and customised body kit , 2013 front and rear lighting amongst other mods.
It was recently up for auction at Brightwells for a starting bid of 15K. There were no bidders so the starting price was lowered to 10K, and then lowered to 7.5K and still nobody bid.

This proves the point is that at the end of the day , regardless of what's been done and what's been spent, it's still only a 2007MY Freelander with 100K + on the clock .
99% of Freelander 2 buyers do not want or need anything other than a factory spec car and would not pay used Evoque money for a 10 year old car regardless of it's spec. (assuming it sold for it's opening bid of 15K).

A facelifted pre-2010 car will not command a higher price than standard pre-2010 vehicle now that genuine 2010 facelift Freelanders can be had for under 10K. It doesn't make financial sense.
So, regardless of what anyone does to a vehicle or how much they have spent on it to get it to how they want it, market value is what they'll get , unless you're lucky enough to find that one person who thinks like they do and likes what they've done.

In real estate as sellers say, buyers are not prepared to pay what it is worth! You will sell an un-tarted up property more easily.

Same with cars. You will get less for the car than if you had left it in its original condition off the showroom floor. As others have said, buyers are conservative. All buyers can trust is a bog standard car with thorough & totally complete service history with i dotted, t crossed & p corrected to r!

Even a set of additional floor mats creates doubt!

Or as they say in yachting, enjoying your yacht (car) is like standing under a cold shower in winter tearing up $100 notes. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Could you let me know how you insure the 'van' with the extra seats in?

As previously (15 years ago) when I dealt with a small business insurance company they only allowed passengers for work associated trips, but maybe things have changed and you can now get policies that allow leisure use with passengers??

PM if you want

Iain
