This pretty unfair to the majority of serving officers. Most of the response and control centres have been outsourced, so they are just staffed by civilians who are employed by organisations that have a different set of priorities to the Police Force they work for. Coupled with a lot of centralisation, you end up with people controlling an area that they have no practical experience of, save for what is on a computer screen in front of them. So mistakes get made. This is a result of cuts to budgets that have forced consolidation and outsourcing, not the fault of servicing officers who generally do have a vocation to help people. As for Sewell, who gives a monkey's if he was off his face with a room full of tarts? I'd much prefer the Police spent the money saved on better policing on the ground. IMHO of course! |

A policeman I know says that he has never understood how we went from having a police force to having a police service and perhaps that is where the rot started? |

You can probably "blame" the Northern Irish for that one. When the Royal Ulster Constabulary was renamed in 2001, it was given the name PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) to address concerns that the RUC had historically been one-sided and that calling it a police FORCE would be even more divisive. Plus, the job of the Police is to serve the public on both sides of the Irish Sea when they are in need of help, not just to enforce the laws of the land. |

I don't care either. As long as the same rules apply to everyone. He wasn't even questioned by the cops. Can you imagine if some ordinary joe was seen on vid acting thusly, he would at least have been questioned, maybe even cautioned. It just stinks of the establishment looking after those 'with influence'. These days, and certainly since that berk Bliar was in charge, just about ANYTHING is criminal. The laws that madman passed made it nearly that, unless the law ALLOWS it, it's chokey, m'lad... Unless, of course, you are Lord Someone, an MP, a Bishop, etc etc. Double standards. As for the rest, it seems that the Police take a step back where possible. That can ONLY damage public trust in the police further. ... ... Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies... |
