Policeman will illegal plates!

Well they have one law for themselves. This policeman drives a Police 90 and on his own personal one in the picture it's fitted with illegal plates. The Land Rover logo on the side is illegal and the motorbike lettering is only suitable for motorbikes or if the car is an import! He certainly does lead a double life Rolling Eyes

As far as I can see, I'm afraid there is absolutely nothing wrong with what he has done.

He has fitted show plates to a vehicle whilst on private land for the purposes of a magazine shoot.

My plates are always on show, so could be classed as show plates.
Its when they dont show its a problem like when they are fitted on the dashboard or in the rear window.

Whats the betting the show plates in question never go on the road for normal use?

Oh by the way did you know you can now fit black and white/silver plates on all Historic registered cars now on a rolling basis as per the free taxation system, so if your classic qualifies for free road tax because its registered as Historic it can have black plates, so currently that means all cars registered before Jan 1975 now and will roll on each year as with cars 25 old.

Good or bad??

I'd say bad because as far as I'm aware, a car will fail the test if presented with those plates on unless it was registered before Jan 1st 1973 unless you know different. I haven't been told any different so where have you seen this?

I don't know if the photo of the 85 Defender is the same as LR describes though he apparently uploaded it, but the front plate is correct for the year and I can't see any LR motifs or M/C plates, well at least on my PC Rolling Eyes my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

Huh?

Whether they do or they don't cannot possibly be determined from the photograph. The photograph shows a car with show plates on private land. As such, I can't see anything wrong with it.

Really? I find that hard to believe as these type of plates were phased out in 1973 - as such, if this were true you would end up with cars that never had (nor were ever entitled to) black/silver plates suddenly springing up everywhere....

Seems like an odd decision if true.

Where did you find this out?

As I recall, the rolling 25 year tax threshold was how it was originally intended to work when it was introduced but the roll on never happened. Of course no fail for an MOT as that was to be exempted as well. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!
