Interesting Mitsubisih PHEV feature

from : http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/outlander/phev-faq.aspx

When replacing tyres, always use tyres of the same brand, tread pattern, size and speed rating. If the vehicle detects a tyre of a different rolling radius (however slight) it will indicate that an EV service is required.

interesting feature

So if you pick up a puncture, that turns out to be unrepairable, it needs a set of 4 new tyres? Shocked

makes me think, if you need to replace a tyre and the new tread is loads more than the remaining 3 you're going to blow the diff up or something Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

That applies to all vehicles in France, the vehicle will fail a CT (MoT) if there are different makes of tyres on the same axle.

Also there can not be more than 5mm difference in tread depth on the tyres on the same axle.

The Disco 3 & 4 in auto also picks this up!

If you have a wheel/tyre of a significant difference (not just tread wear), then it won't change up above 4th. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Indeed, to a degree, it applies to any car with a sophisticated auto transmission/traction control system. Perhaps the Outlander PHEV is particularly sensitive - does it give a tolerance figure? - but it's also an easy thing for them to say, for the sake of simplicity... Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Wonder if you fit 16 rims on the front and then 19 rims on the rear as long as the tyre is sized so its outside diameter is the same would it pass an mot ? as nothing would show up on the warnings or electronics anything is wrong as they would all be rotating at the same speed but the handling wouldnt be much good as the walls would be flexing differently on each tyre size?

Cars can have different sizes front and rear and I can't see anything obvious in the MOT testers' manual (but I'm no tester either), so I think it would indeed pass, as long as they're the same structure. Thumbs Up

Obviously this is hypothetical, but bear in mind, differently flexing walls would mean different rolling radiuses (or radii, if you like), so it might trigger faults if that were the case. Wink Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame
