Its long term reliability thats important though rather than the initial reports.
Once theyve been in the hands of owner drivers for a couple of years, not testers.

The manufacturers thrash them around the world testing and developing them with out problems, then Old Mr Jones has one to go to the shops everyday and it all clogs up and goes wrong.

I bet the FL2 was excellent for a while after the FL1 problems, then the FL2 clutches and diffs started going Rolling Eyes .

Fuel economy doesn't seem to be any better, though.

As said above, give it a few years. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

As my FL2 is in the dealers (again) I have been lent a 15 reg Jaguar XF . The engine is presumably the new Ingenium, it is a 2.2 diesel but it doesn't look like a Freelander engine. However I must say that it is very quiet and smooth with the 8 speed auto. On the motorway at 70 it's doing about 1500 revs and delivers 55mpg. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Back in the early 90's I had one of the first Citroen XMs as a company car, that was supposed to have been raced around Death Valley at 50C and then up and down the Alps etc. I soon found that on a hot day in the UK it would cut out when you pulled off a motorway and than backfire when you restarted it. The cure involved a software upgrade and a redesigned air cleaner box with some extra pipework. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The only Jaguar with the Ingenium engine at the moment is the new XE. Ingenium only comes as a 2.0 litre engine so the 2.2 in the XF certainly won't be an Ingenium.

Yes you are correct, I looked it up and it seems that the same PSA based FL2 engine is used on Jaguars but with a lot of differences in terms of turbo, piezo electric injectors etc. Certainly sounds quieter though. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
