Beware of speeding vans

Sadly while my wife was driving down a road in Burgundy, a large white van smashed into the side of us, smashing the mirror to pieces, scratching the side of the car badly and resulting in the loss of a mirror and a new window needed. This was not her fault at all. She had slowed to less than 10mph and there was a ditch on the side which she had to avoid. An inch closer and we would have been seriously hurt. The van driver did not stop and we later learned that during the picking season the roads around the vineyards are very dangerous as the drivers can be drunk.

We went to a Land Rover/Volvo/Alfa garage (interesting combination) who put in a new mirror but sadly did not have the casing to go with it. When we return to England we will have to get this sorted and the insurance have said that because we have no details of the other driver, we lose our no claims bonus.

It was a very sad day, made worse I have to admit as it was my birthday.

However we did discover two things whilst in the garage.

1. We're just not sure about the DS. Completely understand some people love it.

2. The new Volvo XC90 is just lovely. Huge boot, comfortable seats. And after that incident, safety is a big priority for us. The next Discovery has a lot to work on.
