The LR Bug

So having had the FL2 for a bit over a year and having loved driving it from the start, I have begun to see the difference between it and a standard front wheel drive car.

We moved a couple of weeks ago and access to our place is via a hardcore/gravel track on a fair incline. Every single car that leaves wheelspins at a certain point. The FL2 just rolls on over, showing no signs of effort at all.

And now, despite every inch of my sensible side telling me Im a fool, I'm looking at what is available in terms of older FL2s or even FL1(!!) "just in case" my wife's car simply doesn't cope come the first bad winter....

Never thought I'd be hooked on a car model but it would seem I am. The lure of an old FL1 is that she could have my FL2 when needed and I'd have the banger to tinker with Smile FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Don't knock all the FL1s - My missus' 2006 TD4 is the most reliable of the 3 cars on my drive - FL2 now needs a new driver's door latch (Part made in Germany) and my 1 year old BMW 3 Series (Made in Germany) broke down today and had to be recovered to BMW for a total power loss ! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Smile

I have to say without question we'd have a Disco3 if it wasn't for the road tax. Too much.

Was just looking at an 05 TD4 Freestyle for £2695 with 135k on the clock. Only needs to get me and the kids to nursery/school and the odd shopping trip during the winter. Would sit on drive or garage all spring/summer/autumn. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

FL1 is quite easily transformed into a nice sized and competent laner, with OK clearance following a 1 or 2" lift and larger tyres. As you can afford to have it on the driveway could be a nice little tinkering outlet, as you say.

It comes down to whether or not we need one - the A4 may manage fine for the next few winters. If it struggles and I and the kids can't get out the house while my wife takes the FL2 to work (only reasonable), then I may consider an FL1. Also depends on how much extra a year it works out in terms of taxing and insuring and SORNing. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
