Electric mirror jerky action.

After having my Metropolis (9 months old) for three weeks now, I was very pleased with it BUT just today the drivers mirror is not closing in or opening up smoothly all the way. If I lock the vehicle, the mirror starts folding in smoothly then judders the last couple of inches. When unlocking the car, it judders for the first couple of inches opening then is smooth for the rest of the action. It's the sort of thing that tends to wind me up.......

The passenger mirror is fine.

Does anyone have any experience of this with their vehicle? Will it fail completely or are these usually reliable? How long can they last going in and out (in my case) three or four times a day?

It will be covered by the warranty if it fails but it's annoying for two reasons, because the dealers is 20 - odd miles away so not a five minute journey to get there, and "you'll have to leave it with us sir" plus "we don't have a courtesy car until three weeks time" so it's a pain finding someone to pick me up to bring me back home and to take me to pick it up again.

It's already been back once for a squeak/rattle in the headlining and a dodgy key fob, for which they had it two days although both were fixed ok - no squeak and new fob, I've no complaint there, the dealers sorted it without question.

The dilemma I now have is, do I put up with it and wait until it fails, or contact the garage sooner?

You could always have a go yourself, a quick search will show you this is usual but easily fixed. With the car unlocked, you can fold the mirrors towards the front of the car, you will see the metal 'runner' this needs spraying with copper grease. Don't use oil as this will attract dust. Good luck Thumbs Up

The search isn't brilliant, admittedly.

Give them a good clean first, dirt and grit in there won't help, then lube them, I use a silicon spray, in a push pledge will get you by for a few days until you get some proper stuff Thumbs Up

Ha ha yes with searches you have to ask it to find something as it was entered so if they cant spell it wont find it.

You can use Google to search the site - just use the advanced search and you can limit the search to freel2.com. Probably better unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

I solved mine by simply squirting some WD40 into it. With the mirrors closed, there's a tiny gap on the outside of the mount beneath the mirror housing. One tiny squirt did the trick. Td4 XS manual, Orkney Grey, MY2014

I did this but found out on here it's not a lubricant and silicone is better.

I think mine just came out in sympathy. It's not juddering just making a groaning squeak. The sort of sound a medieval rack would make as it was tightened. Good to know there's a simple fix Smile
