electrical issue with startup. intermittent

Hi everyone
Sorry my first post on here is a problem one.

I have an issue that's been on going for a few years. But getting more and more a common problem.

What happens is this;
When I start it up, it does as it should. Turns over and fires up everytime, no issues.
But every now and then it will have no electrics it seems. No dash lights, no head lights and if I try to drive, it has nothing power wise. It just rolls.

If I leave it a minute or so, it sorts itself out. Ot if I put the car in Park again and back to drive. Sorted.

It was always a rare event
But now it's an every day thing. And we are in the market to sell soon.

Anyone come across this issue and what do I need to do to fix?

Appreciate any and all help.

James

I would always check battery first then the earth strap. Batteries have been known to fail after 18 months or so I think having read previous threads. Also there are some cables with plug connectors in the passenger footwell, these have known to cause completely dead electrics. I would start with the battery first, let us know how you get on.

Hi rich.

The thing that makes me turn away from the battery. Is that it litteraly will start working if I slam it into Park then back to drive.
It will fire up on the button everytime in any weather. But occasionally it will have this issue like the dash and ecu haven't caught up with what's going on.

Thumbs Up I agree with Rich - poor battery or earthing can cause all sorts of "strange" behaviours - I would look there first

Otherwise its diagnostic time (and money) as it seems likely to be ECU related - which will either be detected straight away or you will spend the rest of your life tracking it down Big Cry No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

"Fiat Lux" a philosophy not a car

I don't think it's a battery or ECU fault.
Check that the battery cable connections are tight, both pos and neg.
Have you checked the connectors in the pass footwell yet? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It may not be a loose earth connection. A forum member had problems for a couple of years that were eventually traced to an earth strap that had corroded within its casing leading to intermittent high resistance. This led to the recommendation to fit an extra earth lead between battery and starter.
