I can't understand why the forum sponsors get overlooked on here

Since you raised it, I'd say there are two reasons:

1. It's not enough just to sign up and wait for the orders to flood in - they won't. The sponsors must make themselves visible on the site by contributing to discussions and topics. I know that takes time and resource, but no one ever looks at the sponsors pages - they'll only know you're there if you get in front of them on a regular basis.

2. A typical forum user doesn't care that someone is a sponsor of the forum - unless they're offering a good deal they won't use them. So offer a sweetener - free postage, monthly specials, even a forum discount. And announcing those gives you an excuse to post what is effectively an advert. And when you do post put something short in your signature to direct people to you (something short though - long adverts in sigs will have the opposite of the desired effect).

Duckworths are a good example of how to do it - they crop up regularly and seem to get quite a bit of business through the forums (I've used them and will certainly use them again when I have a need). But looking at the Sponsors page I see two names there that I didn't even know were sponsors - the perfect example that a sponsor needs to get noticed by contributing!

Have used JGS a lot in the past and are a top group of people/company
Very efficient and never had an issue with quality...
That said I also have used the site sponsors on here and also very good...

Front Discs

I'm just looking at changing my front discs and pads on a FL2 2007 TD4, anything special/ special tooling please?

Do the pistons push back OK for the new pads or do you need to 'drain' the fluid off at the caliper?

Eurocarparts do
Eicher £31 each disc, £29 set of pads
Pagid £40 each disc, £44 set of pads
Brembo £43 each disc, £40 set of pads
Bosch £57 each disc, £46 set of pads

I was thinking Brembo total £123 but welcome any comments...currently 20% off so should work out just over £100

Apologies if this question has been asked before, just had a quick look on the forum but can only see info on prices.

Any help much appreciated, many thanks

Dan at Duckworths is offering genuine ones for not much more. Don't know if genuine are better than Brembo?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but if you go onto Euro Car Parts website and look something up and put it in the basket but do not complete the sale then you get reminders for a few days saying "Forgotten Something?" and eventually after a few more days you get an email offering an extra 15% off if you complete the purchase. It's happened to me a couple of times so now I start looking for items a couple of weeks before I need them.... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Ever since I once had a seized bleed nipple sheer off and cause real problems I have tried to do brakes just by pushing them back very slowly by hand. I have done several FL2s and other cars and have never even had to resort to using a G clamp to get the new pads in - just strong fingers. (I haven't done one with electric handbrake though). Just watch out for the reservoir overflowing. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The EPB (electronic parking brake) is no problem providing you put it in service mode;

Procedure is:

Quote:
Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle.

6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash.

You will hear the brake motors activate for a while.

Deactivation

with ignition on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle.

The pistons go back in fairly easily - I used a very weak decorators clamp thing which repositioned them easily
