The Darkweb

i have just been informed by facebook to say that they monitor lists of peoples login details and passwords against the published list stolen from websites and i need to change my password

were exactly do you find these lists, as i don't come up on standard search so it must be off the googlebot route

bloody annoying as i now have to think which sites i have used that particular email address to login, not so much an issue as i don't believe my payment card will have been stored for one off purchases

just wondering how facebook find this list when i can't, are they employing reformed hackers with darkweb membership Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

They may well have their own 'researchers', but they will also have established relationships with the major security companies and like organisations.

is it really from facbook or just another clever scam? Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

I'd be very dubious about re-setting passwords from any uninvited e-mail - could lead to Big Cry
Quick check = Hover your mouse pointer over any links in the e-mail WITHOUT clicking and look at bottom left of the screen should show you the hyperlink address that it relates to - if it is anything other than Facebook you can be fairly certain it is a scam - delete it.

I suspect Nick knows how to spot a scam. Facebook do do this - see, for example:

it would have to be a elaborate scam, when the screen launched when logging in to facebook this morning, and wasn't via an email, so unless they have hacked the facebook login system i think i am safe

to be honest i'm quite impressed that facebook do this, especially when its free to use (for now) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

He probably does and I didn't intend to insult anyone's intelligence or ability - having said that it never ceases to amaze me how many computer users don't know how to do these things! No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS
