Strange noise

Went to get in the FL2 this morning and there is a repetitive noise coming from the passenger side front. Hard to describe but it sounds like a small pump whirring away at about 2 cycles/second. Engine speed doesn't make any difference, washers work as they should and it keeps going with either the engine running or shut off and the doors locked/unlocked.

I removed the battery cover and it seems to be coming from that area as the noise got louder. Having searched on here, one or two owners have had a "quiet alarm" fault. There are no lights flashing and it really is quiet (you need to be either in the car or three feet away from it to hear it) but is the alarm sounder located in that area? I have tried to get it in a garage but no luck. The RAC won't come out without towing it. Apparently unknown engine noises and Land Rovers = instant tow to a garage as they have found them difficult to fix at the side of the road. Any help would be much appreciated.

Does it keep going ALL the while, even when everything has supposed to have shut down and gone to sleep after around 20 minutes or so?
If it does then no doubt you will evenually have a flat battery?

Mine makes occasional noises every so often and thats the electronic handbrake checking itself.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I managed to persuade the RAC to come out based on the fact my battery was going to go flat if left how it was. It turned out to be a fault on the alarm system which was drawing a small current-enough to make a hissing/whirring noise rather than the normal sound. He has disconnected the siren which has stopped it. I now have to take it in to identify the source of the problem-the joys of Land Rover ownership! Many thanks again for your help.

That was my thought too because we had quite a bit of rain last night. The contacts looked dry but fingers crossed that is all it is.
