Winter tyres are, of course, a wise decision during the winter months. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Firenze Red

I used to have a Bongo camper - it was fantastic in the snow. Had Japanese Winter Pack, Winter tyres, mid-engine 2.5L TDI , 4WD Autobox with Diff Lock, Coil springs, live rear axle with LSD.

In the pic below see how the Discovery appears to have lost all traction ... whereas the Bongo is still going

Well, we're staying with the FL2 for a while. After remembering the mistake we made a few years ago when we ordered a brand new Golf, we've learned a lesson. We kept upping the spec from a nice run of the mill Golf and ended up with a 2.0 GTTDI with rock hard bucket seats, lowered and stiffened suspension and paid extra for bigger alloys with low profile tyres and it was a damned uncomfortable ride. If the Kuga had just been a standard Titanium X we'd have had it but a Titanium X Sports with 19" wheels and a body kit? Nah, not at our age. The Bro-in-Law has already ordered his nex company car, a fully loaded new Mondeo so we may wait and get him to spec a nice Kuga Titanium X in the future or we may yet decide on something else.

I must say Steve that I have never seen the point of a sporty 4x4. I don't doubt the sporty drive and handling of the BMW X3 but give me a 3 series touring any day of the week. If you are going 4x4, make it a comfortable one. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
