Most definitely rodents. Similar thing happened to WMBO's Beemer - a family of mice had chewed up the scuttle insulation and made a nest behind the battery.

Well, I wiped off the oil spill and have not noticed any new oil underneath the dip stick. Maybe something was spilled during the service. Will keep an eye on it.
