Hello!
Today i took some of my time and measure this:

Red and yellow - size of the screen
Light and dark blue - install without cuts
Light and dark green - need to cut some plastic.

Do you think that these measures are correct?

I think that i could cut a litle bit more plastic, mayby 2 or 3 mm.

I have no reason to suspect your measurements are not correct as you've obviously gone to some trouble to take them, however, I can't help noticing that your maximum with-cutting width is 184mm whereas according to the specs on the web the Archos 70 mentioned earlier in the thread is 192mm wide and the Freelander tablet which I believe others have fitted appears to be 196mm.

I've been toying with the idea of trying to fit a Nexus 7 (original ASUS model) but at 198.5mm it looks as though I might be out of luck unless I resort to removing the electronics from the case and mounting them separately. (And risking, of course, destroying the tablet in the process.)

The other thing to note when considering whether to go tablet or GPS is the quality of the GPS apps available for tablets. I've tried a few of the free ones and found none of them come close to a stand-alone TomTom or Garmin satnav, and even with TomTom and Garmin Satnav apps (which I haven't yet tried) it sounds as though they may be less well featured or work less well than a bespoke satnav. (Perhaps someone who has either of the TomTom or Garmin apps would like to comment?)

Hello!
I did not measure from the ventilation air outlet to the other one. If so, i thin you can get a few more mm, maybe 3 each side. Note that the dark green line is not leaning on the plastic ventilation.

Something that i think that is important, is to centre the gps in the space.
On the left (right on image) and on the top, without cutting, you have less space than on the right (left on image) and on the bottom, respectively.

The Archos tablet i used was 188mm and i shaved some of the plastic away to get it to fit 192 will not fit.

You will need to either alter the power supply as per a previous thread re a freelander tablet or drill a hole into air vent for lead to connect , I chose the latter , it is hardly noticeable. I bought a spare vent of Ebay if needed to return to stock.

OK, forget the Nexus then! Thanks for the information. I'll stick with the current Garmin satnav for the moment.

I chose the Garmin Nuvi 2699 LMT-D because;

It has Bluetooth for hands-free telephone.
You can connect a wireless reversing camera to it
My wife was used to using a Garmin SatNav

I hard wired it, I bought a piggy-back fuse holder (similar to eBay eBay Item No. 151973106702) fitted it to F10 under the glove box, picked up an earth from behind the panel at the side of the foot well.

Then because the Garmin will only charge from the cigar lighter adapter they comes with the satnav, I soldered the live and earth to that, then wrapped that with self amalgamating tape.

Be careful to get the piggy-back fuse holder the right way round, I didn't first time and blew an engine management fuse which caused all sorts of problems.
