Restricting EGR on MY12

Apparently it is possible to blank the EGR on a pre-facelift, but not a post facelift without a fault being generated. I started thinking that it may be possible to restrict the EGR to at least reduce the flow, but not generate a fault, which is what I did on my old V6 Vectra CDTi.

The plate I fitted was one I used on the Vectra and it fitted (amazingly) straight on. It had two 6mm holes in it. I had high hopes....

Well, it was rubbish. Massive turbo lag, nothing nothing nothing, then bang, turbo fires up. Not what I was expecting as it worked so well on the Vectra. There is obviously more to the EGR and engine control on the Freelander than the Vectra (I guess not surprising as it is a much newer engine). Taking it out returned it to normal and no error codes were generated.

Restricting the EGR increased turbo lag, therefore, perhaps my EGR needs cleaning out which may reduce the lag I am currently experiencing.

Progress, of sorts, at least. BMW X3 30d M Sport - Current (problem free)
2014 SD4 Auto HSE Lux - Gone (too many problems)
2012 TD4 Manual XS - Gone (too many problems)

Malta 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

Hi, i have reading about removing, or otherwise blanking the EGR on my 2012 FL2 (post facelift). Not much info on these relatively recent models. From what i gather the issue will trigger an error at the very least. Is manipulating the ECU, through the EGR map the only solution then?

I like this approach since it would also maintain the total airflow to what it was by simply replacing the hot exhaust with clean cold air.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yes, I think an ECU map modification is probably the only way on these later models. I have spoken to a couple of remapping companies and they do not remove the egr, only adjust fueling etc for more torque/power.

If you find one that removes the egr successfully then please let us know.

I am not sure I would feel confident using the software to mod my own car, or even if it is possible on the later FL2's?

Good video find though, I may look into this company a bit more, or contact them to find out exactly what is involved.

Cheers,
