new owner and strange noise

Hi I am new to FL2's and have a 2013 SD4 with 10k miles ( I am 2nd owner)

I have noticed recently that when cold, when I reverse out of my drive way on full lock and then stop, put it in D and pull forwards that after 10/15 yds there is a noticeable "ping" and there is a sensation in the accelerator pedal. The noise ( which is worse when the car is cold / has been parked for a few hours) seems to be coming from the front left ( its forwards of me anyway)

Its been in the garage and they cant replicate it and cant find the source. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be and how serious it might be ? It *seems* to need full lock on the reverse to trigger it.

Q

Not a fault that is familiar, sorry. You could try reversing into your driveway in the first place, of course! Whistle 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Yep! Mine does the exact same thing but as it's new I suspect part of the normal vehicle operation. To be
Honest I've just gotten used to it!
I drive straight out of my garage so don't think it's steering related.
I think it has more to do with speed. Always
Happens at about 10 to 15kn/hr and only initially in the morning! MY15

I've had 4 freelanders and only my 2011 one did exactly that. There may even be a thread on here. I'll have a look

Not sure how to post a link but search for "Popping noise from the rear when reversing"

thanks for that

one of the replies is worrying "think it might be the haldex not dis engaging, mine had something very similar - new haldex"

i hope not

my "issue" is slightly different in that there is no noise when reversing at all, its only 10-15 yds after you move forwards ( and then only 1 ping) . The "sensation" in the accelerator pedal is most disconcerting

I've never experienced this noise but there again I don't have to reverse mine when at home or work, just put it in D and drive forward. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

I had a similar noise on my 09 vehicle.
I believe it was the brake shoes sticking slightly and resettling with the change of direction.
You could remove them and refit with Copper Slip, or wait until they wear out.

you might be right

i have managed to replicate it almost every time, it needs full lock on a reverse then when going forwards ( coming off of full lock) there is this sudden "ping"

is that brakes or the steering ?

I'm sure I read something about this and that it was traced to the ABS doing a check. Not sure if at first they thought it was the suspension because it sounded like a spring going boing Mine, Saab convertible

I can feel a slight ping on the accelerator pedal but door have always long locked!
I think it's the Haldex disengaging as it's always at about 30 to 40
Kph. Also be aware that I and the other owner have Mrk 4 Haldex whereas earlier FL2's had Mrk 3 so their operation is slightly different. MY15

my suspicion is that mine is the power steering as you need to go full lock to get it to occur

its in the garage in a few months for a service and I will get them to look at it

It's most likely the ABS self test, mine does this every morning, oddly, I also pull away on full lock, maybe that has some bearing on the noise level.
