Indeed - My intention was to do the Haldex today - but didnt realise (until I was underneath) that I need a E10 socket for the prop bolts as I was taking the whole unit off. Ofcourse I didnt have an E10 socket.

The breather pipes are clear (presume one is for rear diff and other for the haldex) and the connectors are clear too.

Are you sure it's water or could someone have put a diff additive in previously?

I think that is highly unlikely. We bought it ex-demo from Colliers Landrover (now Lancaster) in Erdington at 5 months old with 5200 miles. Underneath looked pristine with no evidence of off-roading. I cant imagine the JLR delaerships have been anywhere near the rear diff during its two routine services. Its not required any other work. I did the last service myself @ 3 years. The diff sounds fine - I only changed the oil because I was bored as I didnt have the correct socket for the prop bolts. So I remain perplexed as to why the oil is this colour. Yes its a PITA without one. Ive now got a tap set to do the job and have a couple of sump plug bolts lying around with new copper washers. Jules |
