I understand that although all FL2s have the same basic 2.2L engine that there are quite a few changes (ECU, injectors, turbo, inlet manifold etc) which were made during the production life of the car. So are there different remaps available or is it a one size fits all?

A decent tuner will read the specific map from your cars ECU and modify that one and load it back into the car. So although the information on the damus files are read in the same way, you will having your own specific map re-written for your own car, and not a 'generic' map over written.

You are quite right in saying that hardware and software are developed over the years, so by using a decent tuner that modify's your own specific file overcomes any issues from software compatibility.

+1 re the Bluefin...totally different vehicle & more economical on a run...

I am a big fan of the Bluefin, and will be doing mine towards the end of the year. You all know how long I ran my old Freelander 2 TD4 with Bluefin and the car was perfect!

A true remap is bespoke and written based on the exact car's existing map and tailored to the customer's use/desires, so it's far from one size fits all. Thumbs Up

People steal these files and then sell them on but this will never work as a map that works wonders for one car will be useless on another. Wink

In terms of proving it, I'd suggest a rolling road is avoided for auto cars; it's very difficult to get true readings from them and I've seen first hand how hard they work an automatic gearbox.

Totally agree, but again a decent tuner with a 4WD rolling road and the proper use of the command function on the auto gearbox can get an accurate reading from the dyno. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Don't want to hijack the thread - but have to ask - why the 2 stroke oil additive? - what does it do? Confused
EDIT: answered by using search - SORRY Guys basic error Embarassed

I don't think there's any harm in asking without reading other threads on this subject, as some people would be put off by the sheer vastness of the previous discussions.

There's a lot of toing and froing about this and some people disagree simply on principle, without ever trying it out for themselves. All I can say is that whatever the technicalities are about how adding 2SO does or doesn't work, in my experience of inconsistently adding it, whenever I do, there's a noticeable difference to the levels of clatter from the engine and what I can hear from the driver's seat. I can't say much about MPG increase because I rarely drive the same journey regularly enough to conduct a like for like experiment. What doesn't change is my style of driving and on a long cruise, that will result in a reading of about 30mpg.

If you're going to try this out for yourself, my advice (based on the advice I read in one now 88 page long thread about this) is that you ensure you're using the right JASO FA/FB/FC etc. No idea what might happen if you use FD instead of FB for example, but stick with the suggested type and there's no more to it than that. As for justifying the additional expense of buying it, if that's an issue, then don't. Nothing has gone wrong with my car since i've been adding 2SO.

After talking to the R&D guys at JLR Gaydon, where I work a lot, they just laugh at people who put two stroke in the tanks of modern diesels. There simply is not need for it, but long term will potentially cause issues with EGR, DPF etc.

Thats not me saying it, its the guys who are at the sharp end at JLR saying it. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I had to laugh at that, 2SO may cause problems with the EGR and DPF.
You only have to read any car forum to find people having issues with the EGR and DPF, maybe we should tell them all to stop using 2SO and the problem will go away. Mine, Saab convertible

Or maybe we should wonder why, if 2SO is as beneficial as the proponents would have us all believe, it is not added to diesel and sold as a premium fuel? Or why car manufacturers do not recommend or mandate its use in engines built to operate without such an additive...

There was a test carried out in SA about the effects of 2SO in which they concluded that the increased zinc content was likely to cause injector fouling. I'm not accepting that their evidence provides any more proof than the observations of many, myself included. They tested a couple of different 2SOs on one type of engine. With the many engine and injector designs around, it is laughable to suggest that that could be considerable evidence for the general practice.

As for affecting the EGRs and DPF, the only way that could prove to be an issue is if it were to cause significat particulate matter. As long as the correct, low ash oils are used this shouldn't be a problem and with several reporting MOT testers suprise at the low readings, this would certainly appear to be the case.

Car manufacturers would also not suggest 2SO because of the increased sulphur content (resulting in better lubrication), which has been reduced to meet emmissions standards.

I'm sticking with 2SO unless much more substantial evidence is produced.

May I suggest now we keep this thread on topic since it was originally intended to discuss remaps? Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

I want info on remaps not this spurious regurgitated crap on 2SO.

Should I go for a remap or not??

Always a little wary when you go on line to find an installer and they give a 0800 number or head office number a million miles away. They then provide your details to some mobile guy who cannot provide a rolling road confirmation of improvements.

re Blue Fin - why is diy more expensive than contractor installation?

Comments welcome please. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
