Did you get it from a LR dealer?? If not you could take it to an indy and see what they say, then go back to the supplying dealer. My car was in at the indy I use for a different problem. We got talking about Freelanders and he said there's no mistaking when the rear diff goes. But he did say that some people think that the noise is just a car noise and just drive it about until the mechanic points it out! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I got it from a normal car sales place, not a landrover one. Same thing really just didnt think to much of it till my dad come for a drive in the truck and he said it sounds rather loud from the rear like a wheel bearing or diff noise, tbh 90% of the time i drive with the music on so dont tend to notice anything. Just had a quote from a place i use to get defender parts from saying they couldnt replace the bearings as they dont have the proper tools but can replace the rear diff unit for £1030 Inc vat. I think i read to replace bearing its normal around or near the £500 mark?

I have just had my Rear Diff repaired (yesterday!) this was to remove and replace bearing and seals/oil etc £480 at E H Douglas who specialise in Landrovers, the noise will continue to get louder, I phoned round a couple of places and that was the best price and it was a great service, definitely try and get it sorted under warranty Black FL2

If you're going to get the diff repaired at an independent be aware that the Haldex will have to be removed to get at the diff, and there is evidence that if the Haldex is not refilled exactly according to LR's directions (which involve filling, running the Haldex pump for 5 mins, topping up, and then extracting a precise amount of fluid) then the result can be problems with the Haldex and more repairs!

That is correct and the main reason I went to E H Douglas was that they have now repaired over 60 Freelander 2's with the issue and when I collected mine a lady had just been in with the same issue Black FL2

Did you ask if they'd also done 60 Haldex repairs? |

Can't speak re the throttle but my rear diff bearings were done recently and 30-35 mph was deffo when you started to notice it, with another loud 'band' at around 65-70 mph. |

Strong vibration through the accelerator pedal was, in her Ladyship's FL2, a distinct indication amongst others of the failure of the Dual Mass Flywheel. Unfortunately this failure was not identified at the first time of reporting to an official LR dealer. Here in Switzerland over 95% of FL2's are automatics, so service technicians rarely experience this failure. That however is no excuse for being fobbed off with a repeated diagnosis of: tracking, wheel balancing, worn tyres etc., and, it was only after moving on to our third and current official LR dealership did we get that problem fixed.
