Might I suggest you put a fault code reader on and look for fault codes. You may have a sensor fault sonewhere unrelated to the turbo. The ECU may put the engine in to 'limp mode' to get you home and in doing so shut the turbo boost off for engine preservation. You have already proved that the turbo works in those first KM's, so I would look elsewhere for the 'why'
Kind regards from Fred. 2010GS Auto ex Celeb, Santorini Black, 2011 facelift , spoiler, spats, mudflaps, LED footwell lamps, Witter detach,

Hi Fred, Landiroamer,

The mechanic will check for faults before replacing the turbo.
We did have a number of errors just after we had the car back on the road but it was all related to low voltage, since then the battery has been charged
I did replace the battery in Jan.

Everybody says I should replace the injectors but I have been holding out against this as I had replaced the injectors in Dec 2014, but they have lying around for the last 9 months.

The vehicle had done 201534 Km, been it dropped the valve.

Kind regards
Shelby Thanks

Sorry the last sentence
The vehicle had done 201534 Km, been it dropped the valve.

should read
The vehicle had done 201534 Km, when it dropped the valve.

Just reading through the post "Lack of power Can't work it out. NOW SORTED" maybe I should try the fuel filter first, it is a cheaper fix than replacing the turbo. Thanks

Having back read your previous comments I would seriously look at other faults before changing the turbo. You have mentioned low voltage yet the battery had been changed. First check the battery voltage is good. Then check the voltage between battery negative and the engine and get someone to start the engine, it should show zero. Freelander members on here have experienced all odd electronic problems and then cured them by adding a new earth lead between battery negative and the engine. I've just had the same idiotic problems on my Sons three year old Vauxhall Meriva which I've cured with an extra earth lead. You have to appreciate that the alternator is controlled by a bodyshell mounted logic controller. If you are experiencing daft voltages this could be triggering the engine computer to part shut down limp mode and turn the turbo boost off hence 'reduced performance'. Please search this forum for the notes on adding the extra earth lead.
Have you got a fault code reader ?
Question, what is your early day temperature? Could it be the glow plugs are inoperative ? Whilst I know your midday temp is high, is the early hours real cold?

Hi Fred,

We replaced the fuel filter and the car ran perfectly on it's fist trip of over 80Km's.
But later on the turbo started kicking out again, but it did not put the vehicle into limp mode.

The car then stood for 6 days, when I got back home I looked at the motor and found a lot of diesel had leaked out of the spill return line on the 2nd piston.

My next step is to replace the spill return line.

Regards
Shelby Thanks

Hi Fred,
Here are some updates with regards to my car.
I replaced the return spill pipe, this stopped the diesel leak and awful diesel smell.
I had the injectors replaced, and the car stopped smoking.
I replaced the crank sensor, this stopped the stalling and sudden jerk.
I replaced the MAF sensor and the performance has improved.
I replaced the coolant temperature sensor hoping to get the fans working, alas it did not work.

I have tested the fan control module in another car and it works. Their working control module does not work in my car.
The fuses are good, the relays are good. I had a garage check the ECU for error codes and other than crank and maf no other codes are being recorded.

At least things are going in the right direction now.

Thank you for all the advice you gave. Thanks

SMG
