OEM Bluetooth Retrofit

Decided if i'm going to do the Premium Sound retrofit I will do the Bluetooth at the same time.

But i'm a little confused regarding the part numbers for the Bluetooth module.

Researching online, the 2007 module is crap, and won't pair with modern phone. It's been mentioned that the "2010" module doesn't have this problem.

I see numbers that look suspciously like YEAR.MONTH.DAY on these modules

6G9N-19C024-AI (20061016) LR2
7G9N-10D893-AA (20071012) LR2
7G9N-10D893-AC (20071012) LR2
7G9N-10D893-AF (20080210) Jag XF
7G9N-10D893-AG (20090703) Jag XF, also listed for LR2 once

I presume the AG is the latest one ? Would you count that as a 2010 or were they completely different units after that?

Have you verified location for your module by your Vin?
If your not aware it appears that the module moved locations and certain part numbers may not be applicable.
I suggest you find location in your vehicle and see what the options are from there.
In my MY15 the DAB Module is located where earlier models Bluetooth module was!!!!
I'm not sure when this change occurred !
My MY15 DAB Module location, ie Same location so Bluetooth was moved!

Earlier Production Bluetooth module location.

No I haven't verified anything yet.

The car does not have any phone equipment fitted.

Mine's a 2007 build, and it's been mentioned to "replace the 2007 module with the 2010" so that's basically what i'm shooting for.

Trick is identifying what's a 2010 module.

I did find another p/n listed, AX23-10F845-AA, pics show dates of 20110331 and what appears to be 20131110 or 20101110 so I presume that to be the "2010" people talk about.

There is a complete install kit for ONE THOUSAND US DOLLARS!!! on ebay

I reckon that's outrageous money and will hunt for the indivudal parts cheaper than that...

The p/n AX23-10F845-AA also shows up as being for a 2009-2012 Jag XF, which also makes sense since the earlier numbers were also listed for the XF. I reckon i'll find one at the right price with my Jag contacts.

Rest of the kit well it's the steering wheel controls and some wiring, shouldn't be too hard to find, assuming that it's the same across all the models up to, 2012? Might even be able to rob the wiring from an XF. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

'Crap'? Mine is 2007 and pairs fine with HTC HD2, HTC M7, M8 and M9 and the company motorolla (first being 'old', others being very modern). Newer versions might have more features (?) but that wouldn't matter to me as I can synchronise my phonebook, make and receive phone calls and that's all I need for a phone car kit.

Just repeating what's been said before....

Like here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/premium-c...451-2.html

Would be curious to know if your 2007 has the original software in the module, or if it's been updated at some stage.

I would expect that it would be possible to update an early module to the latest software (whatever that might be) with SDD, but haven't found any references of people who've done that, it's all been "replace old module with new one" so i'm not sure. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I'd hardly describe that thread as conclusive evidence (and the description of pairing doesn't match how any of my phones have been paired with my cars (or headphones)?

As far as I know, the bluetooth firmware/hardware in my 2007 model has never had any kind of 'upgrade'.

I haven't any idea - there's nothing in the receipts or service information with the car (it's very comprehensive) However, I imagine that the services done in the first 3 years (I am the third owner) might have included an OBD plug-in and that could have been used to upgrade the firmware.

Would Land Rover UK not be able to give you information relating to that possibility?

I am presuming that you have prepared the 'phones first - enabled Bluetooth discovery prior to setting the car's search in motion. I know this might be a second level menu on some phones and that merely activating Bluetooth won't work.

Thanks.

This car does not have any phone equipment fitted at all, and i'm looking into what's needed to do it.

Having retrofitted factory bluetooth to a few Jags I thought it would be easy/cheap enough, but it seems the Land Rover is a little more complicated.

I also find many comments about the factory system not pairing with new phones.

Cartronics offers a solution but at £500 it isn't cheap. Well still cheaper than buying all the parts new from LR

What i don't want is to go to all this effort and expense and have a system that does not work as well as it should, so i'm concerned about comments saying the factory system cannot pair with new phones, is buggy, etc.

The comments in this thread give me a bit more confidence to go with the older factory modules.

I can get a Jag XF module cheap enough, steering wheel switches and mic is also not a problem, it's the wiring that's tricky to locate on the cheap...

I like to do my homework before I jump into things. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I don't want a parrot, i much prefer an integrated phone system. Parrot is function over form, in my eyes at least.

and we'll find out soon enough, I just picked up a genuine installation kit at a reduced price off ebay. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

From my experience, if feature was available as an option then the wiring will exist. Get on to Topix, enter vin and go through specific wiring schematics. It should all be there! MY15

Here is the official installation instruction i downloaded from Topix 66248 - LR002775 Bluetooth Kit Instal Guide

So the only PITA is you have to run the wiring for the microphone from the roof console down the a-pillar and connect three pins into a plug on the back of the head unit. Which means disassembling the dash. Taking this out of a wrecked FL2 looks like fun...

The other cabling is the orange MOST fibre-optic 3-way which connects the phone module to the amp, and then the analog wiring loom 3-way which connects the phone module to the cabin harness.

I suspect those two could be taken from a Jag XF, unfortunately for me the closest XF sitting in a wrecking yard is 1400km away in Adelaide. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

So I think I found the harness from the XF but the pictures don't really match the description.

Jag p/n C2Z3786, JEPC says "2-module link lead" google tells me "2-Module Most Harness Link-Lead"

It's item 3 in the picture from the parts catalog, a little confusing since from the picture it looks like the analog wiring with the large grey connector that plugs into the phone module, not the MOST fiber-optic cable.

They are £24 each so i'm not going to buy one just to find out... unfortunately no real pictures of this item are online...

I will contact my supplier and see if they can get me a real picture. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
