Christmas has arrived with final piece of the jigsaw arriving, rear surround speakers and centre dash speaker.

Have all the hardware now just a matter of fitting. As I need to remove the D-pillar moulds anyway to change over DAB
amplifier and possibly L-Band receiver (roof Dome) I'm planning on doing this all at once so I'll need to delay this until I'm ready with coax connections.

My diagnostic equipment has also arrived (still waiting on "pass-through interface) and probably want to familiarise myself with its operation before going ahead. MY15

Turkey has another 3 hours so what else to do but to throw myself in the deep end and start this project - let's start with the easiest - centre dash speaker - DOH WRONG!😱🙈
Centre speaker cover - OMG, very difficult to remove and I'd had 3 "Gins"😱 - bloody pins, have taken them off and not putting them back on until I'm sure I don't have to get to the speaker again (see below).
It turns out that you have to remove the front dash fascia as LR tuck away the speaker wire so as not to rattle, was a little concerning at first as the fascia was stuck solid even after removing all 4 screws under speaker cover and 2 below Sat Nav cover. Duch courage and an almighty "pull" did the trick! Thanks to a reply from LRNUT confirming I'd got all fasteners out and needed to put my "back into it"





Speaker wire/plug exposed and fascia back in place it wasn't long before I realised the speaker plugs were incompatible!🙈



Speaker fits dash but obviously for the Meridian System there is a different part number which I also suspect the same for the rear surround speakers as all the plugs are the same on the parts that I ordered.

These all appear to be for the Alpine System only so I will report back on the correct parts for the Meridian System.

Oh well I suppose this is a pioneering project so there's bound to be some hurdles and that's what makes it fun! Now where's that "Gin" bottle!!!!  MY15

Whilst I was "phaffing" around in the dash I decided the take a few pics of serial numbers etc and noticed on the touchscreen that there was two available Fakra Inputs, TV1 and TV2 According to the Fakra Coding! This could be a future project, interesting! The fact that there's extra inputs opens up to a lot of possibilities.

Yes, I had a look both are the same but mine supersedes yours "AE" v "AF" but basically the same hardware. Possibly yours may not be the TFT screen version as mine is.
In my research on the Meridian upgrade I was convinced that the head unit also needed changing as the Microcat showed a separate head unit with 2 different part numbers but I'm now convinced that the part numbers are for the earlier screen and later TFT screen which was fitted late in the FL2 production. This is good news as it confirms the possibility that all is needed is the up rated amplifier which we will know soon. Fingers crosses or back to the schematics!!! MY15
