As finding and buying an SD4 was difficult and at least £2K more expensive this seems to be an easy way to get 188BHP out of my TD4.

Thanks. That thread was a long time ago. After 8 years of Freelander2 manufacture I was hoping someone actually had experience.

Tuning boxes have not changed in 8 years. They are still cheap resistors in an expensive box
All they do is fool the engine management that everything is colder than it actually is, and chucks in more fuel. Nothing more, nothing less
A quick search via a search engine will reveal many engine failures directly attributable to these tuning boxes, due to high EGTs and melted Pistons etc


If you want more power, the only safe way to do it is via a reputable tuning company. I have an Alive Tuning remap on my Freelander 2, and it is like night and day in comparison

OK so a remap is the way to go. Is there a dedicated website for that sort of thing? Or can you steer me in the right direction please?
e.g. I use Tuneecu (http://www.tuneecu.com/TuneECU_En/index.html) to remap my Triumph. It works a treat.

As Mickey says, Tuning boxes simply alter signals from sensors and tell the ECU lies.
Remap every time.
Most agents will remap free or for a small charge if it is lost at a dealer service or recall after initial installation. All FL2's (3) Gone

And yet, our FL2 is a manual, with 129k miles, and no clutch DMF issues whatsoever

If you do decide to have it mapped, stick with a tuner that specialises in LR models

I don't particularly want to open a nest of Vipers.......BUT.......I live and work around Hastings which has some pretty steep hills and I see so many people balancing their car on the clutch for ages waiting for the lights to change. So it doesn't surprise me that so many clutches wear out at low mileages these days. Seems that a lot of people don't know how to do a hill start off the hand brake.
