I fully concur that he must have been a 'member' !! However, on detailed investigation I think that you will find that it was a courtesy car he was driving whist his Audi was in for repairs to the stone chipped windscreen and bonnet and the reason that he was in such a rush was that he was late for an urgent appointment with a surgeon for the removal of a large growth that was protruding from his forehead.
