165K TD4. Recipe for disaster?

I've been looking at FL1s as I want something to tow my race car and be a comfortable cruiser (I do 25K a year). All the ones I've looked at have been a bit ropey so I've started looking at cheap FL2s (hence signing up on here).

Has something like this got money pit written all over it?

Anyone running cars with sort of mileage and racking up plenty more on a daily basis?

It's high mileage and cheap especially for the spec, like any high mileage car you could be lucky, if there is any history with full LR service, any LR dealer will give you what problems if any it has had, but at that price worth a punt subject to road test, if you have a race car and are the driver and no mechanical knowledge, get your mechanic to check it out. oh, an XS with no heated seats or front screen.

thought they were standard, or wax that after the SE was discontinued..

high mileage manual with tow bar and FSH for that price.
wouldn't bother me at all.
get a good warranty and a decent inspection, then bid him £5000

I had a 2010 XS that supposed to have a heated seats as standard but due to a software error during production quite a few went through without them being fitted and they couldnt be fitted afterwards either, not to look standard anyway.

So not all XS models had heated seats even when they should of had them, so worth checking if youre buying one its not one of the odd ones

How odd that I was looking at a very similar spec in a dealer advert 150 miles away - except it is black. What bothers me is at that milage what is about to go wrong? Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

I don't think miles are a problem nowadays. The components are pretty reliable. Bear in mind that the big expensive service (cam belt etc) either must have been done or will need to be done. I think age is more likely the thing to watch. I reckon that things start to deteriorate at about 10 years old, even on low mileage cars. There's also a question of how the mileage was done. A "hot desk" taxi running 24hours a day in London will have different wear from a car driven on long motorway journeys. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
