hello folks, been on already about problems with my Disco2 and thinking about downsizing.
Possibly spend £8-10k.
Been looking at FL2 autos. about 07/08 number.
However, thoughts please on end of line Freelander1 auto with 06/07 numbers.
Seems to be some good deals out there.
FL2 preferable, but being Scottish, do not wish to pass up a good deal.
Had an end of line Peugot 405 years ago which had all sorts of goodies thrown in.
\any advice greatly appreciated.

personally I would recommend you go for an FL2, chalk and cheese to the FL1

having had both ( and a Disco 2 ) I am in a position to give my view.

Yep, they are completely different cars. Just try driving them both and you won't consider the FL1, unless the price difference is really huge. And remember the FL1 petrol has a terrible reliability reputation (diesel is better). Have a look at an owners' site like http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/ to get an idea of the issues. I had a FL1 for three years with no issues at all, but that was a new vehicle. They are getting a bit long in the tooth nowadays. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

The late FL1 TD4 Auto on 06/56 plate were quite often in the higher tax bracket so your paying £485 a year for very old design car. Still a good car but I would advise only getting one if your budget will not stretch a bit further to an early FL2 auto (£285 tax), which is a whole lot better car.

Ive had a D2 Auto and 2 FL1 TD4 Auto, and now on my 2nd FL2 manual.

I would advise going for as new a FL2 Auto as you can manage. You wont be disappointed

Had to hire a new Ford Focus last week.
Fascinated by the average fuel consumption of 64 mpg, but still would rather have my Disco2 or possibly FL2.

Freelander 2 is a superb car to drive and own I'm on my 3rd, good look with your choice let us know how you get on  2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

Thanks for the offer but I too ,if I change, will be looking for an auto.
All depends on how my Disco 2 is when it comes back from the garage.
New Ashcroft autobox fitted December. 1400 miles later all drive stops.
Been in my local garage now for 2 weeks. Broken flexi plate and they are not happy about something else.
So, waiting. I love my Disco2 but SWMBO has lost all faith in her.
Thats the dilemna.

I had disco's from when they where first released, a great car but stopped when the latest version came out, the price jump was just to much so moved to FL.
I like the FL that's why I'm changing before they go.

Funnily enough the flex plate was cracked on my D2 when i test drove it, but dealer knew about it and already had the part.
His workshop then opened a real can of worms as they didnt know how to reassemble it all properly, so 2 weeks later another part (cant remember which) failed, and by 3 months later the box had failed a further 4 times.
I ended up with an ashcroft box fitted by a specialist, paid for by the original dealer which then mysteriously failed 2 weeks after fitting (hyraulic fluid pipe disconnected, inspection plate missing and some other bits tampered with..................

Looked at an 08 FL2 SE? 70k miles auto, seems to have everything fitted.
Asking price is £10995.
compared to other o7/08 models at £9500/£9700/£9950
Is it a bit overpriced?

No, but that seems to be a bargain, there are GS costing more older with more mileage. Think a test drive over the other sde of the bridge would be in order 30 limits and M8 not good enough, PM me if you want a chat. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
