My 13 Freelander key fob replacement. How much!!!

Hi all
I managed to lose a key fob for my 2013 Freelander and approached the local dealer for the replacement cost.
Wait for it………………

£200 for the Fob

£50 for the key inside the chrome slider

£50 to program “but advised it depends on how long it takes to program the key so just a guide”

Knowing a bit about electronics I know just how cheap these items are to make. I find in difficult to understand why LR dealers are charging inflated prices, not a good way of retaining customers knowing they are out to take customers for a ride, “pardon the pun”. I expected maybe £200 but this seems well beyond being resonable for a replacement key.
Has anyone else purchased a new replacement key for this model? I would be really interested to know how these costs align. Or the best approach to take.
Many Thanks e-melnow

I had to pay £192 for new key fob and coding after the better half lost her key at work. I didnt bother with emergency metal key.
I felt ripped off but had little choice- the dealer has you by the short and curlies and knows it.
Im sure it would be possible to do it a lot cheaper with the right equipment but there is a security issue here.

I drive a BMW and keyfob issues are much the same and probably as expensive - so I cant single out LR in this respect. To be honest Ive been pretty happy with my local dealer over the years - Ive had 5 Freelanders and a TD5 from them. Jules

Before you say that LR Dealers are inflating prices, you should check what other dealers charges, Vauxhall charge £250 for a replacement Fob for a Corsa, and VW charge similar for a Golf. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Just had a lost one replaced this week, local landrover dealer quoted £238, RCV independent quoted £200 so went with them, ordered new FOB, Key on Wednesday, Friday afternoon they coded the fobs up, took them about 10 minutes.

Mines a 5 button FOB for a 2007, I'm not sure what a smart one is.

I have one that my local dealer has sent me by mistake, it's not for my vehicle. I sent it back with a note, they just returned it again so I've kept it, even though no use to me. Their loss!
