2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Baltic Blue
turbo problems

If anyone can help!
I think my turbo has died.
Symptoms are as follows.
1500-2300 rpm turbo in and out lotsa blacksmoke!
Over 2300 rp. Smoke stops and low on power
Started suddenly .......could it be electrical or is it toasted?
Hissing now comes from the drivers side front of engine lower part when using turbo ie 1500 rpm >
Jumpy also in turbo but engine temp normal ...fuel consumption up.....
Will have to drive 400km to nearest agent so any suggestions or help would be splendid.
Thanks
Its a 2007 Freelander SE.South African spec.2.2 manual diesel

Possiblly a split hose, trace the hiss to find out where.

Very Common issue on Freelander 1s.
exact same symptoms you describe
split intercooler pipe
all boost escaping and car over fueling to compensate
find the Split and repair with any decent Tape till you can source a new hose
or if lucky it my just be a failed hose clamp

Agree, also had this on freelander 1
sudden power down and looking in rear view mirror road behind filled with with black smoke.
Hiss traced to split less than 1/2 long.couldn't beleive it could have such a dramatic effect
duck taped cured instantly til new hose fitted

Hope this is the cause of your problem as it seems your're a long way from any assistance .
